Chance me! (BU, BC, UChicago, etc)

Hi there! I'm fearing the upcoming chaos of applying to colleges so here I am!
Here are the schools I'm thinking about, I'm not completely sure if I'll get in or not; I've gotten mixed information.
BU, BC, UChicago, Northeastern, Northwestern, NYU.
And just for fun - UPenn, Columbia, Brown

Here it goes..

Weighted GPA: 3.5

Classes:
All Honors in 9 & 10

-Didn't pass Euro exam but I'm MUCH more confident about the rest.
Next year AP's: Gov, Macro, Calc BC, Chem, Lit

SAT I:
1810
-590 Reading
-590 Math
-630 Writing

*Both NHS and Key Club are service clubs

Intended major:
Biotech or Biomed

I'm also open to suggestions of other schools, activities, etc.
Thanks for your help :)

To be a tad frank, your GPA and SAT are on the low side for UChicago, BC, Brown, Columbia, UPenn, NYU and Northwestern, but by all means do apply if your interested in them!

If your really interested in them I would advise some serious effort to get awesome 1st semester grades and really trying to raise the SAT (right now they will be holding you back significantly). Also spend a lot of effort for the Bio test if you want to be a bio person, having a 740+ score will help offset some of the “badness” of a poor SAT.

You have a pretty good shot at Northeastern and a decent shot at BU with a raised SAT. I would probably recommend, particularly for a biology inclined person, UConn as a possible safety (they are really nice in having essentially rolling admissions even though they don’t say they do (although I am instate and they might have different policies)), and with a significantly raised SAT you might even have a shot at the Honors program.

Also definitely apply early to BC and UChicago if your interested, it helps a lot! Also it is nice, since if you get into one of them early, you can cut down on all the fees and the like for regular decision.

Thanks for your quick response. I definitely agree with you about my SAT scores and GPA, I’ll probably be taking the SAT again in the fall. Thanks again for your suggestions!

for Uchicago, BC, Columbia, Brown, NYU, and Upenn you SAT and gpa are low

but for Northeastern BU you are a match

chance me back

NYU, NU, BC and Chicago are impossible for someone of your level.

Does it help that I’m going to the BU Summer Honors Program in which I’ll be earning two college credits for Bio and Business??

It will help show your interest in bio for sure! It will definitely help at BU :stuck_out_tongue: I doubt it will be an “in” at the higher competitive schools, but it will help for sure (and college credit is always nice!)

Billabongboy is rather harsh, I wouldn’t use the term “impossible”, statistically unlikely, yes, but not impossible. Excellent Essays that show your passions and interests can be a game-changer.

Thanks for your help!
