Honors: National Merit Commended

All I can think of at the moment

Hmmm.
Your SAT score is definitely beyond high enough to give you a change in that area. Unfortunately, they do not go just off SAT :/

Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? It’s a bit low, especially for business and engineering, the two most competitive schools at UT of Austin. If it was possible at all I would try to raise that a bit, at least to a 3.7 and you would be a shoe in if you are in state.

Also, do you have any community service hours or any leadership positions in clubs relating to business or engineering? I think if you applied to the Liberal Arts college you would definitely have a huge chance, but again with Business and Engineering, especially for non-topteners, it is necessary to really excel away from your competition.

I would say you have all around high chances for UT in general, but business and engineering may be a reach.

I still don’t quite understand the weighted/unweighted GPA and how to convert mine. Our school is on a 6 point scale, and my GPA is 6.2. No leadership positions related to business/engineering, and the only community service hours are from judging debate rounds, but one of my essays talks at lengths about why that might be the case (semi sneaky).

hmmm, does your school do any other grading ways?
A 0-100 scale perhaps? It’d be easier to convert it from that, but in all honesty I have no idea how to convert from a 6.0 score to a 4.0 score either Weighted is with AP and Honors points, unweighted is without, but if your school does out of 6.0 I’m just not sure…

I would try to get in a few community service hours pertaining to business/engineering, or make plans for an internship this summer unless you really address it well in your essay. UT wants to see that you made plans to major in the business/engineering program, going above and beyond, etc.
