What’s up, there’s one month left til UCLA transfer decisions are out and it would just calm my mind for someone to chance me so I know where I stand and what to expect. While you’re at it, what are my chances for USC, Berkeley, SD, and Irvine Philosophy?
Major: Philosophy
GPA : 3.46
Major GPA : 4.0 (4 Philosophy classes)
Major Prereqs : Finished all available at my school
IGETC : Done
TAP : Not available at my school
EC : Started a club at my school, a ton of work and leadership, dance, volunteer, etc
Essay : 7/10, not super amazing but still pretty good
I started as a science major so my first few semesters was struggling with classes like Calc (I got a C), Bio (B), etc. Summer 2014 - Winter 2015, I’ve taken 30 units and I received 2 B’s (Chem and Stats) and 7 A’s in Philosophy and GE classes so I have an upward trend since 2013-2014 school year. I’ve read a lot of people saying UCLA Philosophy is easy to transfer to, but I was just wondering where my 3.46 GPA and these stats stood. According to the UCLA Profile of Admitted Transfers, I’m consistently higher than the applying average, but not as high as the accepted average. The 60% admit rate for Philosophy is slightly relieving, but I may just be the 40% that doesn’t get it. Any honest, blunt help is genuinely appreciated! Hahah. If anything, do you have tips to make the next month pass by faster? LOL Thanks!!
Oh man, thanks so much for the comment and insight! It definitely eased my mind a little bit. And honestly man, thanks for basically leading the UCLA transfer thread for this year. There are probably hundreds if not thousands of people who are going to benefit from all your comments and advice in the thread. You the homie
No worries, I’m glad I can be of some help! I know this can be super stressful, and hopefully posting/ranting/getting questions answered here can ease their stress levels.
Hahah! Just a quick question, how many is too many units to transfer? When I finish this spring term, I will have 79 semester units. That’s the equivalent of 118.5 quarter units. Is that too much? Will this adversely affect my admission?
I think you have a decent shot at UCLA for philosophy. The admit rate is higher because the program isn’t impacted whatsoever and not many apply for it. You’re somewhat borderline, but I think you have a better chance of getting in than not, really.
Completing all of the available pre-reqs helps a lot. Good on you for getting that done; lots of applicants can get weeded out for failing to do this. Good luck.
