I’m an African American male from SoCal living in a single-parent, low income household. I will be a senior in the fall.

I plan on majoring in business.

Stats:
- Cumulative GPA: 3.44 (RL issues freshman and sophomore year; I’ll elaborate on my applications. Everyone says I have “a story to tell.” Junior year GPA: 3.64) Senior year GPA will hopefully be a 3.8-4.2. School doesn’t rank percentage-wise.
- ACT: 30
- 4 honors courses and 1 AP course - all math classes; taking Honors Precalculus and AP Statistics for senior year. I’ve taken Public Speaking and Spanish III at my local Community College and earned A’s in both; taking Introduction to Business this summer.
- I’ve been a professional actor with an agent since I was 5 1/2 months old. Since then I’ve established a pretty long resume and been in numerous TV shows, commercials, billboards, print ads, etc. I have an agent and am currently on the IMDB website.
- Starting a non-profit organization for lung cancer patients who don’t receive the right treatment due to not having medical insurance (in memory of my favorite aunt).
- I’m in NHS and CSF.
- I’ve been part of a Church youth group since I was about 3 that goes out to witness to the homeless and people in poverty-stricken communities.
- I’ve been in a ton of church plays and musicals.
- Will have great essays and recommendations.
- If it helps to create any sort of diversity, I will major in Finance/Economics and minor in Acting.

So what do you think? I know my GPA isn’t the greatest, but will my ECs balance it out?

Heads up, you’re going to get a few amount of people annoyed at you. You can only major in theatre, there is not acting major, and you can’t minor. You can take classes though.

You should raise your ACT I believe, check out collegeboard or some other websites to find their average score.

Sorry. I’ll either major in something theater-related or something in business.

Any other opinions? :)

Bump. =/
Come on, Eagles. :)

It’s a concern you haven’t taken the most difficult courseload, and even with these “easier” classes, have a semi-low GPA.

Your EC’s will deff help, but I was told from a rep at a college fair that when reading applications, BC looks first at GPA, then class rigor, then scores, then EC’s/volunteer/awards. Based on this hierachy, your chances seem a little lower. However, your EC’s ARE amazing.

BC might be a reach for you, but deff apply, EA if you can, and hope for the best. You deff have some chance- it’s going to depend on how other students who apply do compared to you.

(I also know the business program is very competitive, so it might be harder to get in here than the actual college.)

I’ll apply Early Action if I need to. Do you think it’ll make much of a difference?

Well i wish i had your stats. Yea i agree with the people above just make sure you are challenging yourself with your courseload, colleges like to see you challenge yourself. Your ECs are stellar and your grades are good. Make sure your App essay is good and really reflects your personality. Top tier colleges are usually looking to grab qualified black students (i’m black and will also be a senior in fall). I will also apply to BC but regular decision. I do not think im qualified to get in EA. I will apply EA to Villanova, b/c its my top choice. (Not saying Nova is easier to get in.) Good luck

Thanks collegebound79
Does it make much of a difference whether I apply EA or not?

Applying EA is likely to LOWER your chances. Unlike schools that might give a boost to ED applicants, the EA round at BC is actually MORE competitive than the RD round. Only the very strongest candidates are encouraged to apply EA to BC. That policy is clearly stated on the BC Admissions website.

Actually, applying early to any college is probably not a good idea for you. If your senior year grades are truly going to be higher (as you have predicted), then you will want the benefit of getting first semester grades to colleges before they make their decisions. If you apply early, they will only see your GPA through the end of your junior year.

Alright. I definitely won’t apply EA. Thanks for the input, worried_mom.

Are my chances at least decent at BC?

I wouldn’t rule you out, but it’s a bit of a reach man. =/

Because of GPA, I assume?
