chance me (can that be done here?)

Well, what are my chances given my stats? I'm also open for recommendations.

Chemistry major from a UC
will be applying with ~3.6 depending on what I get this quarter

GRE: 730Q 510V <----lol
haven't taken chem GRE yet

LOR:
research professor
associate dean of physical sciences
UC presidential chair (haven't asked him yet, but I speak to him on a regular basis and can be reasonably sure he'll do it)

one year research (will that kill me?), one year TA lecture, one year TA lab.

So...do I have chances at:
Carnegie Mellon
UCSD
UCLA
Northwestern
Tufts (not really ranked in chemistry as far as I know)

Is there a specific forum where I should expect more response?

thegradcafe is a bit more useful for grad-related chances. They have a very long database of self-reported acceptances/rejections and stats usually.

thank you very much!

Provided that you are not international applicant, I think your GPA is fine, your GRE should make the cutoff, your research is a little on the light side, now, is it a year of full time research or part-time? Also how strong will your letters be? Haven you taken the GRE subject test?

The year of research was just standard "honors" research (which really means you give a talk about it to the chem department at the end of the year and it satisfies some other requirements) but I imagine that's considered part time.

As for the letters, I feel like one of my professors likes me a lot and will probably write something unique and overall very good. The other is a really nice guy but I've never seen him show much enthusiasm for anything.

I am taking the chem GRE soon, within two weeks.

I don't imagine I have any chance at MIT or Caltech, but hope to at least have a shot at the schools I mentioned. Thoughts? Thanks for the replies

I agree with you on Caltech and MIT, since I read somewhere on the board that these schools are particularly number hungry, and your stats is a little on the low end. Nevertheless, I feel you have a good shot at the other schools you've listed, especially if you do well on your subject test (>85%). Good luck.
