Sorry for the long post, but could I know my chances for ED at Carnegie Mellon?

Low Reach I’d say. You have a good chance because of the 800 M in your SAT I, they really look for that (at least what they told me during my interview). Your extracurriculars are way too much. If you can pick a few that you are able to relate to on an emotional level and are passionate about, you’ll look better. Also, I don’t know if CMU practices Affirmative Action for International Students because you are Indian and they get a lot of applicatipns like that in the engineering school. But don’t let that discourage you, statwise you’re certainly in the range. Maybe get your CR up, they don’t care too much about W. Good Luck!

You have a pretty good chance :] they like As in the most advanced math classes you have, and your chem grades are good too. If you have time, try to get that 800 in SAT II chem, or as the person above me mentioned, try to get a higher critical reading and writing score.

That’s very reassuring. I’ll try to bring up my Critical Reading scores, or do better in my ACT’s. Thanks a lot for your time.

I’d say low to mid reach. Your ECs are excellent, but your GPA and SAT are really bringing you down. As an Indian international applying for engineering, you’ll be facing some really tough competition (even in the ED round). You should aim for a 2240+ SAT if you can’t get a 33+ on the ACT.

It’s great that you have 800s on SAT I Math and SAT II Math. Both scores are really important for admission to CIT. I don’t think you need to retake SAT Chem though, as 760 is probably good enough.

You should know that CMU doesn’t look at freshman grades. Calculate your GPA without freshman year before you choose to apply ED. You may decide that you’d rather wait to have 1st semester grades from senior year on your transcript.

For ED you should get in.

Your Physics Chemistry and Math grades are great and that’s all that really matters. But apply ED to be safe. I can guarantee you’ll get in ED.

Thank You! Does my Junior Year hurt my chances because of a lower GPA, despite a heavy courseload?

the new president is Subra Suresh and he’s Indian. you’ll get in for sure.

sure…
