Major: Business admin
Current GPA: 2.6
GPA planned by end of fall: 3.0
TAG: Yes
IGETC: will complete by spring
Do I have any chance of getting in as a business major? Should I work on my GPA and apply next year instead? Any advice?

Sorry my current UC GPA is a 2.68
I don’t think you’re eligible for TAG. And for UCR, you would need a 3.5 in Major prep to do TAG for business. Google “UC TAG matrix” and you will find the requirements for TAG for each UC that offers it.
I say apply if you want really want to leave where ever you are at, but have some other schools in mind too. The worst they can say is no.
Will you have all your major prep done by the end of spring?
Yeah I noticed the GPA requirement was 3.5 which is why I have doubts I will be able to get in. Yes, all my major prep should be done by spring.
I think you can get in if you are able to bring your GPA to a 3.0 by the end of fall and effectively explain why your academic struggles. Just have good personal statements.
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major says that for UCR in 2015, business had 25th-75th percentile admit GPA of 3.17-3.69, with a 62% admission rate.
With a sub 3 GPA, your best shot will be your local CSU - or one of the non-impacted campuses like San Bernardino r Monterey.
I don’t think you have a chance, especially as a business major.
Before I transferred to different school I majored business at UCR and I remember how the school was saying
UCR has one of the best business program among other UCs and it wasn’t super easy to get in.
Few of my friends failed to meet the requirements and had to switch major to stuff like political science
is there another major at UCR i could apply to that would accept me? If I choose a different major, could I get my gpa up at UCR then switch to business?
I’m not exactly sure since I was business major from beginning.
Maybe political science or psychology? Those were majors that people I know switched to
after failing to get into school of business.
Everybody starts as Pre-Business major and then apply to business school usually around
sophomore year. I’m sure it works slighly different for transfer students, considering how there
are a lot of prerequisites to take, etc. I think you should email and ask some from
UCR SoBa (school of business administration) about switching to business.
I really want to be able to get into business but if I can’t then possibly enter as a different major then switch. Yea, I’ll email them and I’m also going to talk to my counselor about it and see what I can do

It looks like all majors are looknig for 3.0 +
Unless you have some Ds and Fs you can re-take it is almost impossible to move your GPA from 2.6 to 3.5 in a semester or two.
Why torture yourself? Head to a CSU, get a biz degree and get on with your life.
Yea, I know I am not going to be able to get it to a 3.5. The highest I could get it by spring is around 3.3 but by spring it will be too late. But just wondering if I could get in to any UC with a 3.0 by the end of fall
The only other UC’s that have a Business school are UCI and UCB which are not feasible. Are you willing to consider Management and Business Econ? then UC Merced and possibly UCSC with a 3.0 GPA.
I would also consider some of the Cal states such as Fullerton, Long Beach and Cal Poly Pomona. I agree with @NCalRent, CSU’s are an excellent alternative. A UC is not a magic ticket to your dream job or life.
From UCR’s website:
For transfer students admitted to other majors at UCR that are interested in changing to Business Administration must qualify with the admissions criteria as follows:
I am starting to think about going to a CSU as well. I messaged UCR for advice and going to make an appointment with my counselor at my CC.
Would it be wise to apply to UCR with a different major and then switch to business afterwards? Or go straight to a CSU for business?
Did you see what I posted above for UCR if you plan to switch majors? Will you qualify for transfer into another major with classes you have taken at the CC? I would explore more options such as the CSU’s since you have no guarantee you will be accepted into an alternate major at UCR either.
http://admissions.ucmerced.edu/tag
It looks like you can get into Merced with a 3.0 but, the Tag program requires a 2.8 when you submit your ap. It looks like you are a bit short of that threshold. I am not suggesting you don’t apply to any of these schools, just understand your likelihood of admission and have a viable plan B.
Many of the CSUs have gotten pretty transparent about admission thresholds (which I applaud!)
just Google CSUx impacted majors:
Sonoma is reachable and has a great reputation.
http://www.sonoma.edu/admissions/ts/highdemand.html
CSU EB is not impacted so, you should get in no problem. That puts you in tech central -
I am pretty sure the same is true at SF State, low admission bar but, killer job market.
Sacramento, maybe if you can get to 3.0 (thogh look at the escalation of the min transfer gpa over the last several cycles, Wow!)
http://www.csus.edu/cba/ubac/impaction.html
Those are just a few options to consider. (Fresno, Fullerton, Long Beach, Northridge and Chico are probably out of reach)
Apply to 2-3 UCs, a couple of theses CSUs and see what doors are open to you in May.
@Gumbymom I have all major prep that I need to transfer done and by spring I should have over a 3.0 at CC although a lot say it won’t matter by then.
CSU was never my plan but now I will be applying to both UC’s and CSU’s
I was on the TAP website inserting my coursework and this semester I could bring up my GPA to either a 3.4 or 3.5 because two classes are repeats. If I manage to get that GPA this fall would that really increase my chances of getting in?
That would be a huge swing in your gpa and would open lots of doors if you can pull it off. I still think the TAG programs will require a floor GPA a little beyond yours even to apply.
You in progress GPA is going to require you to submit a lot of aps… to cover all bases.
Good luck
