Chance Me, CC Transfer for UC's, USC, SLO etc

Hey guys, prospective transfer student currently applying to schools and looking for discussion on the schools I have already applied to.

Demographics: half Finnish/half Vietnamese

High School GPA: 3.74 UW/3.92 W
SAT: 1950
AP: Psych 3, EnviSci 4

  • Played baseball throughout and football up until my junior year
  • Participated in a local community group doing various volunteer work (LA Food Bank, beach clean-ups, etc)

Attending El Camino College right now, currently in my third and final year there.
GPA: 3.91

  • Secretary of a Honors Transfer Club then elected to VP
  • Volunteered for the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy for 6 months
  • Consistently held a job since the summer after high school graduation working about 32 hours a week during the school year
  • Assistant coach for a Pop Warner team this past summer
  • Will have made Dean’s List 5/6 semesters (didn’t make it my first semester there because I didn’t meet the required 12 units, which is also why it took me 3 years to complete the necessary coursework for transfer)

My extracurricular activities is pretty dismal, I feel like my academic work is competitive enough, and the two essays I wrote for the UC App were great (I hope).

I’m looking to major in Economics/Business and will be applying to schools for this major.

Anyways, the schools I’ve applied to/will be applying to are as follows:
USC
UCB
UCLA
UCD
UCSB
Stanford
CalPolySLO

Thanks in advance everyone!

Gpa is a bit low for the UCs and the SAT for UCLA and UCB and USC and definitely Stanford so reaches. Cal Poly seems like a match , while UCSB, and UCD are high matches to low reaches.

@lolkar Do the colleges take into account the test scores even if I’m now in my 3rd year of community college? I thought my GPA while attending El Camino College was strong although I do admit my high school GPA could have been better.

HS GPA and test scores will not be considered, only what you have done at your community college. You look like a competitive applicant for all the schools. Stanford will be a reach as it is for every applicant. Good Luck
