As long as you get some decent recommendations and essays, you are without a doubt going to get in.

apply ED to cornell, write outstanding essays, have good letters of recommendation.
then i’d say you’re pretty much in. even though you pointed out that your gpa is low, your resume and SATs make up for it.

Since I don’t believe either of the first two responders work in admissions or have telepathic powers to determine who you will be competing against in the upcoming admissions pool, just some advice:

You have good grades, scores and extracurriculars that will will be put you in the running. However, so does the rest of the pool.

You need to demonstrate in your application why Cornell, and specifically why Cornell Arts & Sciences is the place for you. Spend time on your essay(s) showing who you are and how they reflect your intellectual interests.

^I do have telepathic powers

Ya, first of all, there is NO GUARANTEE with the Ivy Leagues. It is ridiculous. So sorry but do not think you have it in anywhere.

But ya, win that Siemen’s competition and that will look really good. Get those grades up and you could have a chance.

that was waht i was thinking too  but thank you!! ;]

I think you have a great shot. GPA is certainly not the only factor that Cornell considers, and you have a really impressive resume in every other aspect. I know this is cheesy, but Cornell considers the whole individual and not merely the stats. Trust me- I am a CALS ambassador, a Biology advisor, and I’ve worked in a lab in which I’ve seen many students’ high school GPA / SAT information, and there is definitely a whole lot more to the application than simply one’s GPA.

Like mithopeful81 said, there is NO guarantee with the Ivy Leagues. However, I think that if you apply Early Decision, you have an excellent shot at getting in, and even for regular decision, you are a very strong applicant. ED, I think your chances will be significantly better though.

I am going to give you a link that I wish I had a year ago, take the information (in the first post, specifically) seriously.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/82799-how-impress-adcoms-your-extracurriculars.html

You are a very competitive applicant, and other then your essay and how you sell yourself, your credentials are rock solid.

This is extremely pessimistic. He has a very good chance. One does not need to win the Intel STS to get into Cornell, especially considering they take several thousand applicants every year and only 300 people nationwide become semi finalists.

While I respect your opinion, I must advise destinichild to consider the fact that you are an intolerable pessimist and concerning himself with your advise is really a waste of time.

you have a very good chance of getting in

If you don’t get in because Cornell thinks you are not good enough, then I would regard Cornell students much higher( although I already envy them so much).

Your everything looks amazing. But colleges are SO unreliable. For example, a 4.0 student who earned a full music scholarship at a state university didn’t get into Wash U, and I had a 3.71 (but I did take very hard classes all through high school) and got in.
I’m sure you’re going to get in somewhere amazing, but don’t take it personally if they don’t accept you–every single person I’ve talked to says college is a crapshoot.

Any reason why you gpa is low?

If the Cornell music department likes whatever, you send in, you’re basically in. If not, then you maybe have at least a decent chance.

Chance me?
