Please chance me and advise whether I should apply undecided!

Sorry about the typos! Typed quickly as I could!

Never apply undecided if you have an idea, which it seems you do, of what major you’d like to take. They will consider you automatically for DGS (undecided). As for your academic credentials, while your ACT composite and the Math subscore are good, your unweighted GPA is inconsistent with that. AP scores are not considered for admission purposes, although the actual courses that you’ve taken in high school will help your weighted GPA, as is evident in your weighted GPA. Explain your special situation. I’d say your chances are slight reach for Engineering due mainly to the fact that competition for the limited seats is intense, but, I think, at the very least you may get a 2nd choice in engineering, or at the very least, your odds of getting an offer to DGS is likely.

Thank you very much for the help! Does the essay and interest shown by many visits help any?

The essay is important, and is part of a holistic application review. They won’t know how many times you’ve visited. There is also a section where you can make comments that you’d like considered that the essay response might not provide the ability to explain.

Oh, thank you! This is very helpful! I hope I’ll be able to write a solid essay and hopefully pull through!

UIUC engineering application does provide a “First Year Engineering: Undeclared” option. It is acceptance into the school of engineering and it is not DGS (undecided). An applicant can apply undecided as a first choice and a specific eng major as a second choice.

Make sure you read over all the info on the UIUC website.

Thank you sir! I shall scour the site, but they have a plethora of subjects! Regardless, thanks for pointing me in that direction!

My daughter had zero AP classes and 3.5 GPA and 30 ACT. She also had an illness and graduated a semester later. She wrote her passion for her major and school first and a small paragraph of the family issue that caused her not to take any honor or AP classes. She got in. Most kids she meets have high GPAs and ACTs, but she has met some in the education department with 24s and 26s. Essay’s count. I even called admissions so worried about her past and they were so nice. Your ACT proves you have it just sometimes people react to stress differently as did my daughter who needed an extra semester. Good luck!!
