Hi everyone! I would like some advice and opinions on my official college list to see where I am in terms of chances at each school! Here is the list in somewhat of an order:
- Northeastern University
- Boston University
- University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
- Syracuse University
- UC Davis
- Hofstra University
- UMass Amherst
- NYU
- Simmons College
- UC Santa Barbara
I am a white female in the upper middle class in California attending a prestigious public high school
GPA: 3.87 UW, 4.14 W
ACT: 32, 33 superscore
AP Scores: AP World (3), AP Lang (4), AP Bio (3), APUSH (3), AP Calc AB (5)
Courseload Senior year: AP Lit, Gov/Econ, AP Psych, AP Physics C, Calculus II/III, Child Development.
Extracurriculars:
-ASB Member (9th)
-United Synagogue Youth Executive Board (7th-11th) and President this year
-Camp Counselor at Camp Ramah in California
-Intern at a Preschool twice a week
-Track and Field: Pole Vaulting
-Theater: 11th and 12th
-Member of nonprofit empowering females: 9th
-75 hours volunteering at Hebrew school
Teachers Assistant at Hebrew school: (9th and 10th)
Letters of Rec: Should be fairly strong. My counselor letter of rec will probably be pretty generic because I go to a large school with a class of 733. I have my 10th grade Chemistry teacher who also happens to be my track coach writing one letter and my AP Calc teacher writing the other with whom I had a good relationship with.
Safety-High Safety:
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Hofstra University
Mass Amherst
Match
Simmons College
Syracuse
UC Davis
High Match- Low Reach
UC Santa Barbara
Northeastern University
NYU
Boston University
Doesn’t look like you have a reach here.
If you get into all your safety schools I recommend University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, its an amazing school for the money. I put UCSB in the high match section as I am not sure what your UC GPA .
You didn’t list your UC GPA so I am assuming your GPA based upon what you listed
I think you have a really good chance at a lot of these! Syracuse might be a little bit hard but I think you’re in good shape right now.
Syracuse is easier to get into then Boston College, NYU, UCSB, and Northeastern
Sorry! UC GPA is 4.15 so not much different! also Boston University not Boston College Thanks!
Oops read that wrong, sorry, see edits @imerem98 What would you be majoring in? For UCs it has a pretty big impact. It might be too late, but if you could approach your GD and ask him/her to right a personalized letter it really helps, colleges notice when a GD gives a letter thats not the generic template. Some GD’s allow you to write it for them, or have you review and revise the letter for them.
Food Science/Nutrition Sciences, but these aren’t definite as some of the schools I’m applying to under a different major because they don’t have food science. Also thanks for the advice, but I don’t have a GD, just a family friend who I’ve met with a few times to discuss college.
I mean your schools counselor
Oh I see I think it is too late but I will look into it thanks!
I think you have a great chance at all of these colleges! Why don’t you have any true reaches?
I was originally applying ED to Cornell but the financial situation didn’t make sense for my family
That’s actually the real issue haha. I’m in a great financial situation which means Cornell won’t offer me any financial aid and my family isn’t willing to spend $68,000 per year for Cornell
