Thanks so much! If you only have time to chance me for one, please do Columbia, it's my dream school :D

You’re practically a match for NYU in my opinion. Georgetown a low reach, if you can get your two other Subject Test scores 700+. Columbia is a reach, but your URM status will help.

I think your ECs are quite strong too.

:)

Thanks! NYU is a great school, but is there anything I can do to better my chances for Columbia? I want to raise my GPA but I’m not sure senior year grades will really have a salient effect on it :/. As for my EC’s, I’m already doing as much as I can for the things that I love: writing, languages, politics, and active humanitarianism. Is there anything that will help with my Columbia chances that could be accomplished between now and when I apply ED there?

I think you’re a possibly high match/low reach for Columbia and probably in at NYU.
SAT II’s don’t matter that much, and your SAT I score is quite good.

You have really good foreign language ECs, so I would emphasize that on your application and in your essays. I wrote my essay on my love for a Spanish painter and I got a handwritten note from the person in admissions covering my region saying how much he liked it.

Do your research on Columbia and be really specific with your “Why Columbia?” short answer, relating it back to what you want to major in. Also, I don’t know how much it helped, but I emphasized my quirky hipsterish side in the part of the application where they ask you what you like to read, the type of music you like, etc. I talked about Columbia’s old Great Books program and how much I liked to read, listed my favorite recent foreign films, and noted that I’d always been too poor to attend any concerts. Don’t be afraid to be honest with them and highlight what you’re really like.

Apply to Harvard etc, you’ll probably get in since your stats are beyond amazing for a URM.

Good chances at all of them. URM helps quite a bit.

I’d make Columbia a reach, NYU a match and Georgetown a low reach w/o URM. With URM, Columbia’s a low reach, but I don’t know about NYU and Georgetown’s AA policies so…

@djdopeslap

thanks a lot, I will make sure to emphasize my love of reading, and why i feel the great books/core curriculum is perfect for me. I’ll also be sure to emphasize the language aspect of my ec’s.

as for harvard, i’ve always been told that my gpa is far too low for hpy and similar schools

Your SAT’s are good enough for Columbia and Georgetown and outstanding for NYU.

Your GPA is in the NYU range, low for Columbia and Georgetown, but your “underrepresented minority” gives you a good enough boost.

I think you’re set, underrepresented minority is is like a .3 or .4 GPA boost lol.

^It’s more like a general boost on the entire admissions process. It doesn’t bump just the GPA - it bumps the entire application of the student.

If Columbia is your top school then by all means apply ED. It will boost your chances. Overall I think that you have a great shot of getting in as long as you write good essays. Your SATs and ECs are very good.

bump bump bump

very good chance at all, even Columbia. Do well on your next SAT IIs and you’ll be set.
