I’m decent at interviews and my essay had positive feedback from most teachers. I’m an asian female though :
I live in a affluent primarily white community, but only like 5 people get into or go to ivies every year out of classes of like 300. I’m hoping that my research and music portfolio will put me ahead of my peers though since no one from my school has ever done it before. The only thing I’m worried about is my GPA because according to naviance a large portion people from my school who get into ivies have 4.2-4.5 and I’m on the lower end of the spectrum.

What do you think my chances are?
Also, does other people getting in for sports affect my application?

Any response is greatly appreciated :slight_smile:

Are you applying early?

Although it is hard to tell, I think your chances are great.

I am also an Asian female and have test scores similar to yours. I come from a less wealthier community though and most of the people from my school get into the schools mentioned scored around 1450-1530.

I think it all depends on the community and how many people apply from your school. I wish you luck!

@girl14195 If your Siemens research paper is something that you are truly proud of, submit it as a supplement along with a supplemental recommendation from your research mentor. Some of the schools on your list (From personal experience: Harvard and Yale; I’ve heard similar things about other schools on your list, but have no first hand knowledge.) will forward the paper to a faculty member with relevant expertise in the field of your paper for a read. If they are impressed by the paper, with your grades and stats, you’ll have a decent chance.

Are you applying to any of your top choices early?

@taylorharry @Penn95 i’m doing mit, umich, and uchicago early i think? only early action because I want to see all of my choices but I like those schools particularly

3 questions:

Home state, uwGPA, and intended major?

@billcsho nj, 3.78, public health

3.78 is a bit low. Can you recalculate without subgrades for UMich chancing?

@billcsho what’s a subgrade?

^ Plus or minus. Basical, treat all As as 4.0, all Bs as 3.0.

@billcsho 3.93

Great. That would increase your chance for UMich a lot. Your uwGPA 3.93 is slightly above the admission average while your SAT is near the 75th percentile. Your chance at UMich LSA would be higher than the average OOS admission rate of ~20%. It would be a very low reach.

@billcsho thank you!
