Chance me Cornell (CAS) ED and others, and recommend some schools!

Indian Male from Long Island, NY

GPA- 96 or 97 weighted, 95ish unweighted (my school does not do it on a 4 point scale)
Upward trend every year-freshman= 93, sophomore= 95, junior= 99 W

Class Rigor- For my freshman year and half of my sophomore year, I was in Pennsylvania and took Gifted classes(under honors but higher than regular, and unweighted), however these show up as regular level classes on my transcript from my current school. My junior year I took 2 college and 2 honors classes. This year I'm taking 4 AP classes and 1 college, and do not have any free periods(the same for junior year)

Class Rank- Exact unknown right now, almost positive top 10%, 400 students total

SAT(took only once)- Composite- 2060
CR- 640
Math- 690
Writing- 730

ACT- Took in September, awaiting results, most likely 30-32ish

SAT II's- Will take Math I and Chemistry in November

AP's this year- Biology, Gov & Politics, Micro, & Psych

EC's-
*Volunteer at local temple- 250 hours (9-12)
*Volunteer at local hospital- 100 hours (11,12)
*Co-founded religious youth group- help organize events such as food drives, tutor children, etc. (11,12)
*Religious International Symposium(9,10) - Won local both times, placed at states 2nd and *3rd respectively
*Annual Literature Competition at temple (10,11)- first prize 10th, third prize 11th
*Counselor at Summer camp for Sikh Youth (11)
*National Honors Society (11,12)- only for juniors and seniors

Awards-
A few small ones here and there, nothing big

Common App Essay- my experience being a Sikh and being a religious and visual minority(I have a turban and beard) in the US and how it has affected who I am as a person

Intended Major- Astronomy(i've been interested in this for a long time, unfortunatley I don't have the EC's to show it, so should I apply undecided?)
Also, what schools with good astronomy programs would be a good fit for me? I would like to stay in the Northeast or Mid-atlantic regions

Colleges:
Colleges I'm looking at:
Cornell CAS ED
SUNY Binghamton
BU
Columbia
JHU
SUNY Stony Brook
Swarthmore
UPenn
Vassar
and please recommend schools with good Astronomy programs that would fit my stats

Thanks for reading!

And I forgot to mention, this summer I created a short documentary on Sikhs in America. I submitted it to a film festival and I am waiting for the results

You will need considerably higher scores to be competitive for Cornell, Columbia, Penn and Swat. The others look achievable.

Well, your EC’s and essay do pair up wisely to form a really strong theme throughout. That’s a huge plus, and is what separates unique apps from regular apps.

But the SATs pose an issue. For a college at Cornell’s level, I wouldn’t be caught dead applying without a CR and M score under 700 (writing’s not considered by Cornell). If you can pull a 32-33 ACT, you’re set. SAT II’s should be 750+ (700+ at the LEAST).

Nevertheless, your devotion to Sikhism (I’m Indian too =D, not Sikh though) should really pull through. You’ve made a documentary, an organization, and have an impressive number of volunteer hours at the Gurdwara.

Cornell CAS ED- Reach, though I predict good things, esp. through ED
SUNY Binghamton- Safety, in
BU- Reach to low reach
Columbia- Due to stats and class rank, a higher reach.
JHU- Reach
SUNY Stony Brook- Safety, n
Swarthmore- I’d say reach, a little around JHU’s level
UPenn- See Columbia; but not as much, if you get what I mean
Vassar- almost in

I can’t say much about astronomy programs, but I’d recommend reaches at places like UChicago, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, and a bit higher (stat) related reaches at places like Darthmouth and Brown.

Thanks guys, any other opinions?

Bump (10char)

agreed with redroses

your sat score wil hurt you at the top schools

chance me? :)
