Chance Me Cornell Dyson, What are my Chances?

I am a rising senior thinking about ED 1 to Cornell Dyson school for their AEM program and I have no idea if I am going to get in or not or if I even have a chance. I know that this year they are score free so I don’t have to submit SAT but I’m not sure if my stats are enough for Dyson.

Essay, my essay is pretty good but I can definitely do some work in making it better.

Are you in-state or out-of-state? Your GPA is pretty low and you don’t seem to have taken very rigorous courses so if you’re out-of-state I would give you a low chance at admission. In-state is another story; I would still say Dyson is a reach but you have a chance.

I am instate

Why would it be different instate? I thought colleges prefer kids out of state because they pay higher tuition than instate students.

The Dyson School at Cornell is actually a state school. In-state kids have both a higher acceptance chance and a lower tuition.

This does not mean that in-state kids have a higher acceptance rate though, it just means that of two kids with identical stats, the in-state one will be admitted. The acceptance rate is actually lower for in-state because a ton of in-state people apply.

Cornell has no ‘state’ schools. They have schools receiving state funding, but they are not entirely funded by the state, therefore they have considerable leeway in their admissions. I agree with @bawbroncos21 - that given two identical candidates, the in-state applicant may get a closer look. Dyson is incredibly difficult to get in. It is best to submit scores if you have them. Students with scores will be considered more heavily than those without them- regardless of what they say.

No state school is entirely funded by the state anywhere.

No kidding, otherwise we would have free tuition. Cornell does not receive enough in public subsidies to be considered a ‘public school’ which is what ‘state school’ implies.
