<p>I have the absolute most rigorous courses for History and English, but not for Math and Science. However, they are still above the average and are considered rigorous. </p>

<p>My school is hard to explain. </p>

<p>English Courses are either Regular, Honors, High Honors (and then we have AP Lit for Seniors). I am in all HH and I'll be taking AP Lit next year.</p>

<p>History is either H or AP. Everyone takes H frosh year. The small learning community I'm in has HH history for senior year. It is weighted like AP history and is considered more rigorous. I took APUSH 1 and 2 (my school splits it up) and next year the HH History course.</p>

<p>Math is either Regular, Honors, High Honors or AP. I started in Algebra 1 Honors, then moved to Geom HH and Algebra 2 HH. I'll be taking AP Statistics next year. Some kids take Algebra 1 and Geom in middle school, Algebra 2 Frosh year, Trig Calc 10th, AP Calc 11th, etc. I'm scared that since I didn't take these courses in middle school (I moved from another town where it wasn't as common), my chances will be hurt.</p>

<p>Science is either H or AP. All frosh take H Biology, and depending on their math class, H Geophysical Science H or Chem H. I took Geophysical Science H 10th and Chem H 11th. Some of the kids who took Chem 10th took AP Physics, Biology or Chem 11th. Senior year I'll be taking AP Environmental Science.</p>

<p>I also took Music Appreciation, Finance & Ceramics as electives.</p>

<p>I am in a small learning community at my school focusing on government. We write bills, debate, we have departments, senate, etc. It takes up your electives from 10th - 12th and your English/History courses are through it. It is theme based learning, etc. </p>

<p>Through the Drama Club I've become involved in writing plays and learning about dramatic literature. Through the government classes I've learned how to write bills and debate. Through the Youth Theatre I've passed my knowledge from Drama Club to younger kids.</p>

<p>All of these college confidential forums are making me so insecure! I feel like my curriculum rigor and modest ECs will be detrimental to my chances. Will the upward trend in math redeem me? I'm not going into STEM, so does it really matter?</p>

<p>Not taking Trig. or Calc. could hurt since most viable candidates will have taken these. On the counselor’s part of the common application they have to check how rigorous your course load was, you may ask them if they have a set policy on what a student has to take for them to check “most rigorous offered”. Any idea of your class rank? What college at Cornell will you be applying to?</p>

<p>I’m applying to CAS for English. My school doesn’t rank.</p>

<p>Going ED exponentially increases your chances for Cornell since they have that inferiority complex in the Ivy league.</p>

<p>I’m hoping that my dedication to ECs and the upward trend in math will help me a bit.</p>

<p>Do you think your grades/rigor put you in the top 10% of your class? Top 5%? Even if your school doesn’t rank, I can almost guarantee Cornell admissions will have a good idea where your rank is anyway.</p>

<p>I’m pretty sure. I have higher grades than some of the students in higher math/science classes, which puts me ahead of many of them.</p>

<p>If you’re in the top 10% then you should be ok in terms of grades. but you can’t change that now, so focus on test scores and especially essays. </p>
