Chance Me: Cornell, Harvey Mudd, Olin, Rose-Hulman

I'm applying to Cornell, Harvey Mudd, and Olin as reach schools and Rose-Hulman as more of a safety school. My major will be mechanical engineering and I'm a white female.

Asking for chances because half the time people are convinced I'll get in everywhere and the rest of the time it seems impossible. I'm worried about my extracurriculars mostly, and not 'demonstrating interest' in engineering. Also worried about being considered 'in the context of my high school.'

I'm a senior this year at competitive public school in CA.
Classes have been honors where my school offers them, but lots of people here take way more AP's and get ahead by taking classes in the summer. It seems like a third of the class has straight A's, and it's not because of grade inflation.

GPA: 4.0 UW
SAT: 2340 (CR:790, M:770, W:780)
ACT: 36 (E:36, M:35, R:35, S:36, writing 8)
SAT II: Math2 790, Physics 780, Bio E 780
AP: Euro 5, Lit 5

Sr. year classes:
AP Bio
AP Physics
AP Calc BC
AP Lang
AP Gov

Nat'l Merit Semifinalist (haven't gotten word on finalist standing yet)
5 teacher-nominated awards in various subjects at my school

EC's:
2 summers of counselor in training and 1 summer as junior volunteer counselor at G.S. camp

loads of hard-to-track volunteer hours leading younger girls in various educational activities through G.S. troop

National Novel Writing Month (wrote a 50,000 word novel in the month of november) succeeded 3x.

Art class since 4th grade, art displayed in a student exhibit at the laguna beach festival of the arts

Nat'l Honors Society in high school, 25 service hours per year

Varsity girls' lacrosse since freshman year (school doesn't have a JV team) but I won't be playing in college.

Video game programming/design club membership since club began my jr. year.

Thank you!

a chance for any one of the colleges would be fine, if you don’t know about one?

Is bumping my own thread considered rude?

All of these schools are within reach. You’ll get into Rose-hulman, and probably olin and rose hulman but I don’t know too much about cornell admissions. It seems like a crapshoot.

XD I don’t want to be extremely creepy but I know you…welcome to College Confidential! I’m glad you took my suggestion to apply to Rose-Hulman, and I will repeat that you are competitive everywhere! We’ll find out soon… Good luck! :D

I think it’s safe to say that the last three are most definitely possible. Cornell is, too, but the thing with the Ivy Leagues is that it is almost impossible to ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Your test scores are great, and I think you have a very solid list of ECs. If you’re worried your ECs don’t show your interest in engineering, make sure you find a way on your application essays to show the admissions officers how passionate you really are. Good luck!

You can get into Cornell ezpz

I think you will get into Harvey Mudd. They have the highest percentage of females of any engineering program and that’s because they accept almost 50% of the female applicants. Your scores are excellent and what they are looking for. Have you interviewed at Mudd or done their overnight guest student program? That would probably help you decide and improve your chances even more, although I think you’re in.

From your interests, I think you would like Mudd and that you’re likely to get accepted there. Olin and Rose-hulman are almost guaranteed and Cornell is likely, but never certain.

Thanks, guys!
Amaranthine, how did you find me? Did I tell you about this? o-O

As for results, I’m going to Olin!
I got waitlisted at Harvey Mudd and Cornell, and accepted at Rose-Hulman and UCs Berkeley, Davis (good scholarship), Irvine, and San Diego.
