Chance me (CS Transfer)

Hello everybody it has been a while since I first started my community college transfer journey and it is almost at an end.

I learned a lot and am ready to attend my new school wherever that ends up being.

With that being said what are my chances at the following schools?

CSULB (top choice)
CSUN
SJSU
CSUF
UCR
UCSC
UCI (Informatics)
UCLA

NO UC TAG
Applied for EOP

Quick Background:

Computer Science Major, Low Income, First Gen, Latino
Transfer GPA: 3.50 (Above 60 units below 90)
No Associates Received
Pre Reqs Completed: Calc 1, Chem 101, 102, C++, Bio 3, ENGR 101 (For CSULB)
Missing Calc 2 (Will Complete this Winter Session)
IGETC: Completed
Golden 4: (A, AP TEST, A, A)
2 Ws and one Emergency W due to COVID (I explained why on my app)
I also took 3 more programming classes (Not transferable on assist) and have 2 programming classes planned for Spring (transferable but not required)

ECs and More:

NASA L’SPACE
CC Scholarship Recipient
UCSD Summer Transfer Academy
USC Hackathon
Honor Roll
MESA
Student Worker + Chaperone for HS Students

Essays:

I think they were pretty average at best. I wrote about overcoming obstacles in relation to living in a poverty and crime filled area, having parental issues, and being first-gen.

Planned Spring Courses:

Data Structures
Discrete Structures
Statistics (For UCI Informatics)
Economics 1 (Just to learn)

Now that there is an influx of students who are taking gap years I have been wondering if admissions will be more or less lenient this time around.

Thanks to whoever reads this!

For the UC’s you can look at this link which lists the UC transfer GPA admit ranges by campus and major.

For SJSU, below are the impaction admission criteria for CS:
Computer Science
Applicants who completed five course requirements were admitted above a 3.85 GPA.
Applicants who completed four course requirements were admitted above a 4.05 GPA.**
Applicants who completed three course requirements were admitted above a 4.25 GPA.**
This major did not have the enrollment capacity to admit applicants with fewer than three course requirements completed.
This major did not have the enrollment capacity to admit applicants as alternate majors.
**Applicants could achieve a GPA higher than 4.0 if they are a local applicant and/or they have earned an Associate Degree for Transfer in a similar degree program.

For CSULB, the average admitted GPA for CS majors was 3.33 (2019 data, no 2020 data).

I do not have any specific data for CS at CSUN. Average transfer GPA for admitted students (not major specific) was 3.10 but since CS is a more competitive major, it is probably higher.

Average CSU Transfer GPA for admitted students at CSUF was 3.37. Again, CS may be more competitive.

Best of luck.

CSUN’s thresholds for fall 2020 (last year) are given at
https://www.csun.edu/prospective-students/transfer-impaction#criteria

CS is not listed as an impacted major on that page. For non-impacted majors, the college GPA thresholds last year were 2.00 for local area applicants and 3.10 for non-local applicants. Of course, thresholds may change this year. CSUN’s local area for transfers is described at https://www.csun.edu/prospective-students/transfer-local-area .

You can look up historical SJSU transfer admission GPA thresholds by major here:

While they do vary over the years/semesters, note that CS has typically been the most selective major at SJSU.

If CSUF is Fullerton, then all programs are impacted, but the campus’ web site gives no information on historical GPA thresholds for admission.

If CSUF is Fresno, then fall 2020 (last year) thresholds for CS were 2.80 for local applicants, 3.50 for non-local applicants.
