Chance Me/CSU

My GPA is terrible due to personal problems my junior year. I know a GPA like mind is not something seen often on this website but I'd appreciate a chance for: San Diego State, San Francisco State, Chico State, CSU Long Beach, CSU Northridge.
I also applied at a couple of UC's I know they're a reach but why not? UC Riverside, Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara.
CSU GPA: 2.9
SAT: 1680
low ranking high school, scored 95%+ better than class in SAT.

Oh and if it’s relevant: Spanish major!

Well, the UCs won’t accept you. They all require a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Probably will get in Northridge, and decent chances with San Francisco. The rest don’t look very promising to me.

@CultClassic I had read somewhere on the UC website that they did allow students who didn’t meet the minimum requirements to apply and possibly get accepted on account of an exception due to other life experiences or such…

Maybe. I don’t know anything about that particular concept, so I can’t really contribute anything worthwhile to that specific part. Still, wish you luck with the UCs.

Just make sure to explain your circumstances

@cultclassic thank you!

@Atmaior yes that’s a must!!

You may be eligible for UCs due to their local context provision. It targets kids that excelled at lower performing schools - which it sounds like you did.

If so, it would be Riverside or, they may ‘refer’ you to Merced.

Of the CSUs you noted, SF is the only one you’ve got a realsitic shot at. Unless you are a local applicant, at one of them; Channel Islands, Sacramenton, Sonoma, Monterey and SJSU would have been more appropriate targets.

Some of those campuses may still be accepting applications.

Honestly, the time to research stuff like that is before you apply.

Good luck.

@NCalRent thanks for the link!
I agree that my choices are a reach but when I was applying I thought a competitive SAT & not so impacted major would help me out.

What’s your SAT score?

It says 1680 in the first post. However, CSUs use the SAT out of 1600, not out of 2400.

@Socalgirl: what is your sat score with just the critical reading and math sections? That’s what CSUs look at.

@spirral @cultclassic yea totally blanked that they only count those two sections! On CR I scored a 630, on the Math section a 500. Math is obviously not my strength.

You still have a great chance to matriculate to Riverside and Santa Cruse So good luck!

@JasperTraum thank you!
