You really need to bring your SAT/ACT scores up!!

I’m partially interested then.

ಠ_ಠ
What does that mean?

All your ECs, awards, and leadership positions are really impressive, but I agree that your ACT/SAT scores need to go up a lil bit. I don’t know whether your ECs would kinda “cancel out” the lower test scores, but  yeah, gooood chance

I’m taking a Princeton Review course to take the SAT one more time before I apply to colleges. On the practice tests, I’m hitting in the 2000ish range.

Your ECs look a bit too… idk inflated.

Sent from my Nexus One using CC App

Your current test scores will not make you competitive at Cal, even with your URM status. Don’t give up, but you will need to raise your single sitting score!

fwiw, my roommate was minority and got in with a 1750 :O. Her ECs, from what she’d told me, were mediocre. She obviously had good grades but said multiple times her school was cruddy.

Thanks for the feedback from everybody!

Yes, I am in the process of raising both my ACT and SAT scores.

@mkapur; what’s your roommate?

It looks like you do well in classes, but not tests, especially if you are getting A grades in a high school with good students and at community college, but only getting 3 scores on AP tests.

Although Berkeley favors grades over test scores, it still considers test scores, and your test scores are not competitive, especially for the most popular engineering majors. So try to boost your SAT or ACT score.

Note that you need to calculate your UC admissions GPA, which uses 10th and 11th grade course grades in a-g subjects, with up to 8 semesters of honors/AP/college courses with C or higher grades given +1. See [CSUMentor - Plan for College - High School Students - GPA Calculator/url.

Note that Berkeley College of Chemistry and College of Engineering recommend submitting SAT subject tests in Math Level 2 and a science: [url=<a href=“http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/requirements/examination-requirement/SAT-subject-tests/index.html]University”>http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/requirements/examination-requirement/SAT-subject-tests/index.html]University of California - SAT Subject Tests](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU)

Also, I’m in-state, if that matters…

Ooops, I didn’t catch you were applying to Engineering. Not going to happen unless those scores go way up, regardless of your grades. Have you considered any other majors? Even if you get around 2000 I’d advise applying into L&S.

That’s surprising, considering I’d have much more experience in engineering than nearly all of the other applicants.

you might have a hard time in engineering at berkeley given your sat math score in the mid 600s.

That’s surprising, considering your test scores are abysmal compared to all of the other competitive engineering applicants.

It does seem odd to have such relatively low test scores despite A grades in AP courses at a [high school with an API of 816](http://api.cde.ca.gov/AcntRpt2010/2010GrowthSch.aspx?allcds=42692864231726) and a community college.

Might be worth trying to figure out why your test taking is significantly worse than your academic record, and to see how that can be remedied. Not doing well on certain kinds of tests may be a problem if a college instructor gives a test similar in format, or if you take other standardized tests like GRE, FE, etc…

What branch of engineering are you most interested in? At Berkeley, the engineering majors generally considered most difficult to get into are Bioengineering, EECS, and Engineering Undeclared. (If you are mainly interested in CS, then the L&S CS major is a perfectly good substitute for EECS, but L&S is generally considered easier to get admitted to.)

Aerospace or Electrical Engineering.

I am also applying to Georgia Tech(#2 behind MIT in Aerospace), which is my first choice.

Gotten in the 2000 Range on most practice tests for the SAT on October 1st

Assume these scores:

750 Math
630 Reading
620 Writing
