I know that colleges look for students that fit niches. My newspaper extra curriculars are super impressive. Does that make up for a sub-par GPA. What does my ACT mean for Dartmouth E.D?

Languages Proficient In: English and Russian

Essays: Confident in my writing ability (Walks with my mom- how it helped me grow- shows off my cute side and I can plug smart statements)
Recs: Really solid rec from Newspaper advisor, History Teacher (hopefully good), Head principal (Solid)

You seem like a competitive candidate. Have you taken subject tests? I do not think they are required if you take the ACT but it would help if you had good scores to send in. You should check out my profile since I was accepted to Dartmouth and I was focused on writing and journalism as well.

taking some subject tests, solid letters of rec, and a phenomenal essay will improve your chances significantly. I’d say you have a good shot

33 is the average ACT of accepted students.

@happybird123 I just got my first subject test back from American History: I scored an 800. Should I take one or two more?

@doorrealthe Is Dartmouth ED actually easier to get into than reg decision. I know with ED that’s when all the legacies and donors apply andnots there only choice. Does ED help me enough to justify putting my family in a more questionable financial position?

Thanks guys

over 60% of the ED pool is hooked- legacies, facbrats, athletes, developmental admits,QuestBridge matches, etc

Applying ED does not justify placing your family in a questionable financial position. The whole premise of ED is in exchange for an early decision, you will commit to attending, withdraw all other applications and not make any new applications. There is an expectation that you have done your financial due diligence as to whether Dartmouth is a financially feasible option for your family.

You definitely need to sit down with your parents and run the net price calculator to see if going to Dartmouth ED or RD is a financially feasible option for your family.

Take one more subject test in your next strongest area, unless you have two very strong areas such as Biology and Literature. 2 is enough, 3 is just extra unless you are an amazing test taker and can get 3+ fantastic scores.

Yes, ED will help your chances. It shows that you are committed to Dartmouth. The pool is full with hooked applicants, but RD is tougher.
