SAT: Shooting for 2100

I don't know what to do this summer yet.
I hope to apply for 1) Teach English in Taiwan, 2) Princeton Journalism Program, 3) Vision New America (a political civic education program in NYC). Any thoughts?

Schools looking at
Berkeley, Stanford, Dartmouth, Boston College, Cornell, UCLA, USC, UCSD, Colgate, Georgetown, Columbia

I hope to either become a lawyer or go into business (MBA). What do you think?
I really would like to attend Dartmouth because I hear they have a good study abroad program.

I'm guessing it's a big reach considering my grades. But I'm hoping my web design business that I started to help my family with money would help me stand out on the application.

For the privates, freshmen year counts too. Are you ranked?

The average SAT at Dartmouth is 2200, so I’d shoot higher than 2100 for it, Columbia and Stanford.

Freshman GPA:
1st Sem - 3.83 UW+W
2nd Sem - 4.0 UW+W
(no weighted classes)

Unfortunately, I will not be able to know my rank until the end of junior year.

hey, your GPA seems to be a little on the low side of things for most of those schools… shoot for a really AMAZING SAT score to make up for it (2200) and come up with some original amazing essays and that should put you in the game. good luck!

chance me back? =]

ahhh okay do you think a high sat score and good essay would really do it? hmm… any thoughts on summer plans?

Thanks=)

A 2400 might be hard for them to resist!

For the class of 2012, 40% of the class at Dartmouth were top 2 in their class and average SAT was 2200. They accepted about 13%.

This year they’ll accept about 11% and with the new financial aid initiative and becoming need blind for internationals, the admit rate will probably continue to go down.

As you are an ORM from an overrepresented state, Dartmouth is a reach. Certainly worth an application, but you need to really consider more solid matches.

Not looking good for Dartmouth. SAT, GPA, overall feel just not good enough. You didn’t say anything about your recs and essays, if they’re up to par then maybe. A lot of schools have a good study abroad program, that’s not the best reason to choose Dartmouth… choose Dartmouth because you like the outdoors or the Liberal Arts feel. For Berkeley I have no concept of in-state admissions but I’d think you’re right around what they want. Stanford I can almost promise you that you won’t get into, it’s just too hard this year. Boston College you stand a pretty good shot for, I’d think, Cornell a little less. UCLA, USC, UCSD, again instate so I don’t know but I’m thinking maybe. Colgate don’t know. Georgetown, Columbia are pretty big reaches.

You’re a Junior. Calm down.

get a great SAT score, say 2300? to make up your GPA, which is a little low for those schools btw.

Hmm…

I’m not sure about berkeley because their average unweighted GPA is 3.8 and weighted is 4.3.
Though my sister went to Berkeley I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

Actually Beef Supreme Dartmouth’s study abroad program is very unique.

You do have a chance. Anything is possible. Good luck!
