Chance me, desperate for advice

Last year I was a freshman at JMU in Virginia. I really don't like the school for many reasons programs, abroad connections, etc so I'm really set on at some point transfering.

highschool gpa 2.9-3.0 all AP/honors classes but pretty much just a B occasional A/C student
2005-2006- junior year of high school, year long exchange scholarship to Germany
I completed highschool in three years
Freshman/Sophmore year of high school, hardcore swimmer and didn't really try in school
1390 out of 1600 SAT

JMU freshman year GPA 3.86 cum. Econ/German major
awesome recommendations

For fall transfer I applied to UVA and WandM. I was rejected off the waitlist at UVA and was accepted to WandM.

I don't want to go WandM and plan on going to JMU another year and then applying for transfer to a bunch of schools in the Spring. I plan applying to the following schools

Georgetown "1st choice"
Upenn "2nd choice"
UVA "third choice"

the rest....
Boston College
Columbia
Dartmouth..dreaming
WandM again for a safety
Cornell
Middlebury
Tufts
UNC
Amherst
Northwestern
John Hopkins

I consider pretty much all of these schools a reach.
If i average say a 3.8 for sophmore year and apply to all of these schools, do you think I should get accepted into atleast one "besides wandm"? I know all these schools have tiny acceptance rates and applying to good schools is such a crapshoot, so I was just hoping to get some opinions. I'm i crazy passing up WandM? or do I have a good chance of getting in one of the above schools if I work hard next year.

ps is applying for transfer after freshman or after sophmore year usually easier??

I am not familiar with transfering chances
Sorry :(

Your grades in college are the major factor in transferring, along with the needs of the college to which you are applying. It is hard to come up with transfer numbers, because you don't know what the colleges need in terms of transfer students in which disciplines. In other words, your chances can be zilch at a school where there are enough majors in the subject you are majoring since they don't need or want anymore, regardless of your credentials.

You need to look at transfer numbers overall, and specifically for your major to get realistic ideas on what your chances are. As to whether or not you are wise in passing up W&M is entirely up to you. How badly do you want to get out of JMU, and how bleh are you about W&M.

bump............
