kudos to whoever actually reads all of this...and please excuse my horrible spelling

thanks a lot, honesty appreciated (i can take it, i hope..)
btw this has been posted in other places if it looks familiar

You’ll get in anywhere. Honestly. I’ve never seen anyone with any publications. You have a slightly low GPA in comparison to Ivy contenders but you have plenty of stuff to make up for it.

lol no there are other kids who compete and publish science research in intel etc.

its a great e.c. to have, but its not a golden ticket imho. i just got denied early to duke :frowning: so im still unsure of how strong my app really is

Anything “helps.” The real way you are going to get into a University (in this case Rice) is by presenting enough information about yourself and presenting yourself in a way so that the admissions office regards you as valuable and realizes that adding you to the class of '13 is going to be benefitial to everyone.
Anyone can always say yes, you have a great chance. But that does not guarantee admission. I would say you have a great chance, depending on your essays and if you continue your passion of science and research into these essays and throughout the application.
Good luck.

your gpa and sats are a little low.

but the publications are noteworthy.

you have a good chance.

Ok, reading just these few comments, I have to say that the expectations some of you have are ridiculous. His stats are low? He has two nearly perfect SAT II and a really good SAT score. Slightly low GPA but look at his courseload. And I’m not sure how you get published because I’ve never heard of anyone doing it or what tools (labs, info, etc.) you have access to in order to research these topics, but either way you have a half dozen publications plus tons of other ECs. You have a great chance, don’t get your hopes up reading these other posts or mine, just in case you don’t get in but I’d be surprised.

Steven, I would agree that his SAT II’s are great, but his SAT I is not as hyped up as you think.
Yes, congrats to Fender, he got a 2060, which is 97ish percentile. Think, however, about his competition. Most of the people applying to Rice (who want to be competitive) have a 2200/34 ACT. Plus, this is college confidential we’re talking about. This website reported like thirty four 5’s on the AP Calc BC test before one 4 was reported… so.

thanks for the input guys lol im feeling the love

my sat is a little low i only took it once, is it worth taking again? i feel like that writing section is going to kill me…

i heard that for rice applying OOS for Ed helps but for RD hurts, is that true?

OOS never hurts for rice

RD tends to be more Texanish but def if you apply OOS in RD you got an advantage

so i hear, except im from nj and every school i go to i hear…“and a large population from ny and nj”

everyone in nj wants to get the **** out of it lol, dunno if that makes a difference

so i hear, except im from nj and every school i go to i hear…“and a large population from ny and nj”

Here’s a link to a chart showing the geographical representation of the Class of 2011: [Rice University | Prospective Students](http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Class_of_2011.asp?SnID=499382520)

I think you will get in. Those publications, to me, are very unique. Your SATs maybe a tiny bit low but your SAT IIs ares stellar.

I just looked at Rice University @ collegeboard.com, and 53% are in-state! That’s a HUGE number! Being OOS certainly must help

you’re in …

Since Rice focuses heavily on research, I’m sure they’d love to have you aboard. Your ECs will definitely help in this case.

i sure hope so,
i mean duke was a research heavy school too but that didn’t pan out as planned :(
