Chance me EA? I'll Chance back!

Hi all.

I wanna be straightforward - My GPA is outright bad for the schools that I am applying to, but i'm trying to be the candidate who can compensate with ECs/Testing. What are my chances at getting into uChicago.

I'm an Indian (as in the asian variety xD). I go to [one of] the most competitive school[s] in all of massachusetts.

GPA: 3.5/4.0 (UW), 4.0/5.0 (W)
Rank/percentile: Not offered at my school.
SAT (superscore): 2340 (740 CR, 800 M, 800 W)
SAT II: 800 Math IIC (also 800 Math IC but nobody cares xD), 730 Chem (ew), 710 Lit
AP: Comp Sci A - 5, BC Calc - 5, Chem - 4, Physics - 4, US History - 4
Taking Psych, Spanish, and Stats this year predicted all 5's

Statistics H/AP

Reccomendations:
Math Department Head (BC calc teacher) - has very high opinion of me and should give excellent rec
English III H teacher - likes me as a person .. didn't do to well in her class (got a B year avg). will prlly have a good insight into my personality though.
Counselor rec - idk too much of what the counselor thinks of me.. BUT she's writing her rec based on the recs which i'm getting from outside school which are - 1. TyE Business Competition Mentor and 2. MIT professor who i did an internship with (Both EXTREMELY strong recs)

Extra curriculars... (100 million over here). Listed in order of descending importance:

So... how do i compete?

Thanks all!! and feel free to ask me to chance you as well. I don't know how well i'll be able to do, but i'll give my best effort.

I think you are pretty competitive in terms of you ECs and SAT score. Just work on your essays. UChicago separates admitted students from wl/deferred students by their essays!

thanks for the help :). any other advice/chances anyone else?

The U of C doesn’t use the Writing score portion of the SAT I in their admission process. Instead, they pay very close attention to the essays, especially the one prompted one. So despite having an 800 SAT in Writing, you are going to have to prove how well you can write. If you really want to attend the U. of C., you should spend a good amount of time on the UChicago specific essays. Indeed, last year I saw someone on CC with 2350+ SAT’s who got accepted at Caltech and Yale but rejected at Chicago. He admitted that his problem was his essays.

o.0 darn lol. advantage lost D: Anyway thanks rhg3rd for the advice much appreciated :).

I believe my essays are really strong actually. I think I really got across my creative side and kept the storyline interesting while discreetly revealing a lot about my character.

Bump

Bump x2

I think you’re good. Best of luck!

Hey :). @thebanker any specifics I can improve on?

Thanks :D

You should be good! It looks like your EC’s and heavy course load pretty much cover your GPA. Like hotpongtato said, I would really focus on your essays, as it seems U Chicago focuses really heavily on them. Your GPA and test scores are up to par, it just boils down to the essays, I think.

^ my gpa is up to par? O.o lol I was never brought to believe that

Shameless bump

Any other chances as deadlines are fast approaching

Sent from my SPH-D600 using CC

With strong essays I think you have a pretty good chance! Your ECs are interesting enough to make them take a second look at your application, especially if you talk about them in your essays. I know you say your school doesn’t rank, but do you have any idea where your GPA is relative to other people? Is your counselor going to be able to say that your 3.5 is more impressive than it might initially seem? If it is, maybe make sure she mentions that…

Chance back?

I think I’m top 15% but not 10. Yeah so I’m not the greatest studier… Yeah… But I think my essays are rly good. We’ll just b wait and see I guess.

Sent from my SPH-D600 using CC

nope. deadline extensions are only on the east coast due to impending storms unfortunately. the east coast university students are apparently getting the day off tomorrow too. i wish it’d snow here in chicago…i need a deadline extension >.<

no, it’s been extended! check the website!!
