Chance me EA? I'll Chance back!

I wanna be straightforward - My GPA is outright bad for the schools that I am applying to, but i'm trying to be the candidate who can compensate with ECs/Testing. What are my chances at getting into LSA (and Ross preadmit possibly)?

(let me know if its worth applying ross preadmit. thanks :) )

I'm an Indian (as in the asian variety xD). I go to [one of] the most competitive school[s] in all of Massachusetts.

GPA: 3.5/4.0 (UW), 4.0/5.0 (W)
Rank/percentile: Not offered at my school.
SAT (superscore): 2340 (740 CR, 800 M, 800 W)
SAT II: 800 Math IIC (also 800 Math IC but nobody cares xD), 730 Chem (ew), 710 Lit
AP: Comp Sci A - 5, BC Calc - 5, Chem - 4, Physics - 4, US History - 4
Taking Psych, Spanish, and Stats this year predicted all 5's

Statistics H/AP

Reccomendations:
Math Department Head (BC calc teacher) - has very high opinion of me and should give excellent rec
English III H teacher - likes me as a person .. didn't do to well in her class (got a B year avg). will prlly have a good insight into my personality though.
Counselor rec - idk too much of what the counselor thinks of me.. BUT she's writing her rec based on the recs which i'm getting from outside school which are - 1. TyE Business Competition Mentor and 2. MIT professor who i did an internship with (Both EXTREMELY strong recs)

Extra curriculars... (100 million over here). Listed in order of descending importance:

First High school level Bollywood A Cappella group which I founded in sophomore year (it's been 1.5 years (will be 2.5 when school ends). - Sophomore year thru senior year
TyE Business plan Competition - We spent a whole year formulating a business plan and we got 2nd place in the competition. I was the CFO... - Junior year
MIT RFID Lab internship - I spent the summer working in a lab with PhD students and the RFID dept head helping them formulate thesis. I may be listed as a co-author on these MIT students' theses (there are 2). - Summer before senior year

~Gap here because those 3 up there are the most important of the ECs~

I'm also fluent in bengali (spoken, written, listening, and reading)

So... how do i compete?

Thanks all!! and feel free to ask me to chance you as well. I don't know how well i'll be able to do, but i'll give my best effort.

Think you have a better chance at privates. stuff like AIME is good and stuff, especially for privates . And if your USCF is 2000+ (and on the off chance you dont know what that means, the whole chess thing wont help at all, but I am assuming ur around a NM based on what you said) that can really help.
Mich is pretty number orientated and that gpa… dunno its tough to tell. You have a decent shot I would say though

Reach for LSA. Substantial reach for Ross pre-admit. GPA is the issue. It’s the major criterion for admission and a 3.5 makes it tough especially OOS. The Ross application is an additional essay - it doesn’t cost extra. If you are interested you might as well write the essay but I don’t think you will be offered the pre-admit.

Thanks for the advice :). I’ll try for the preadmit nonetheless since it doesn’t affect my overall chances for admission (right?).

Any other advice?

You’re clearly an intelligent kid, but UMich has proven to heavily emphasize Unweighted GPA. What’s your class rank? If your school is fairly competitive and your UW GPA still puts you in the top 10-20% of your class, I’d say you have a better shot.

Two comments:

1) Michigan DOES NOT superscore test scores or weight gpa (they go by strictly unweighted gpa). Don’t know how your UNSUPERSCORED results compare to the 2340.

2) You may want to consider having your high school counselor contact the Michigan rep for your high school if you have extenuating circumstances explaining the difference between your unweighted gpa (low) and your test scores (high). They can also express how you have a sincere interest in attending and why you would be a good fit.

I would say that I am in top 20% but no official percentiles are ever released, so…

My highest score in 1 sitting is a 2240 (640/800/800).

I.don’t think.my counselor will be too enthusiastic about having to contact umich… The other problem is that the only reason there is such a disparity between my grades and my sat is because my frosh gpa was pretty bad. Mostly bc I didn’t try that hard. my gpa was better in sophomore year, but still not enough to pull my overall gpa up too much. Junior year was better though.

Sat on the other hand comes almost intuitively to me. the math and writing make a lot of sense to me.

Soooo… Yeah

Good shot for LSA. I had similair GPA and test scores to you and I’m OOS. I didn’t get Ross PA but you need to have ridiculously good GPA and scores for that. They might be hesitant because as much as schools like to see involvement, too many activities hints at spreading yourself to thin which would correlate with your GPA. Michigan admissions is sometimes a toss up, but I would say you’re on the right track to get into LSA. Make sure your essays are killer.

Lol.I’ll do my best to make, my essays killer. Thanks for the chancing :D.

Anyone else?

The robotics sound pretty convincing. The gpa and.sat are pretty weak though. Not sure how your chances are. I’d try if I were you. What do you have to lose besides time and money?

i think you’ll get in to LSA!
what about me?

UW GPA: 3.777

2130 SAT (math 770, CR 710, writing 650)

Math Level 2 SAT: 750

science fair every year since 3rd grade, won a decent amount of awards nothing huge though

tons of ECs, but again nothing HUGE

AP:
10th grade: European History - 3

pretty good essays
average teacher recs (I think)

Michigan ONLY considers unweighted gpa. Even though unweighted gpa is on the low end, it looks like you have taken rigorous courses. i was say you have a good chance.
