Hello! I’m very nervous about getting deferred from early action, and I was wondering if anyone could chance me. I’m pretty sure UGA EA only cares about grades/test scores, and not extracurriculars/essays, so:
OBJECTIVE:
• Highest ACT Composite - 31 (35E, 29M, 31R, 30S, 30W)
• Highest ACT Superscore - 32 (35E, 30M, 31R, 30S, 30W)
• Fresh Weighted GPA (UW in parentheses) - 3.05 (2.92)
• Sophomore Weighted GPA (UW in parentheses) - 4.03 (3.76)
• Junior Weighted GPA (UW in parentheses) - 4.31 (3.91)
• OVERALL Weighted GPA (UW in parentheses) - 3.80 (3.53)
• Senior GPA, as of 1st quarter - 4.42 (W)
• OVERALL GPA w/ Senior Yr - 3.95 (W)
***** I’m aware my cumulative GPA is quite low for many of the schools I’m looking at, that will be explained at the bottom.*****
• Rank: N/A
• AP Test Scores - Chemistry (2), English Lang (4)
• Senior Schedule - AP Calc AB, AP Phys 1, AP Art History, AP English Lit, Honors Choir, Physical Education
• Teacher recs: 1 very strong, 1 above average
• Counselor rec: will be very strong, my counselor knows me extremely well
Applying for Financial Aid?: Yes
State (if domestic applicant): NJ
Country (if international applicant): USA
High School: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 100k - 150k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation college, had a very rough freshman year (close family member passed away and it hit me VERY hard, hence the low GPA, I’m hoping that colleges see the progression in my GPA as strong?)
I plan to major in journalism.
If I get deferred EA, I’m pretty confident that I have enough extracurriculars/strong essays to get accepted regular decision, but I really want to get in early so I don’t have to stress about it. I know my ACT is right at the 75th percentile, but my GPA is what I’m worried about, just hoping that my GPA progression is enough to get me through.
