*I'm the only person from my school applying Early Decision

good course load, EC’s are decent, first generation is good. the only thing is the low test scores, both ACT and the four 3’s on AP exams. i think you have a good chance but not a shoe-in

I think test scores are the only thing bringing you down. How’s your class rigor based on your school?

Gonna ask for a chance myself. :3

^ ^ ^ thats also a good question. if your school only allows for 15 AP’s then thats really good

Freshman year I took 1 AP
Sophomore year I took 2 APs
Junior year I took 3 APs
Im currently taking 4 APs and my school offers roughly 15-20 APs

By the way, our school offers 25 AP’s, about 20 of which are actually being taught to students this year;in general the top 10% will take from 9-14 AP classes. Our schools average weighted gpa is 2.94, average SAT of about 1430/2400 and average ACT composite of 19.8 as of last year. Just some more information for one of my best friends :)

If I were an admissions officer, I would see you as a clearly smart student at the top of your class (this can help explain, but not supplant the 3.75 UW GPA unless you have a whack grading system), and you took a decent amount of AP’s but your school doesn’t seem particularly competitive. This would be supported by the low avg. SAT scores, your ACT which is below average for applicants, and the multiple 3’s on AP exams. Is there a good history of students going to top private colleges such as Duke? And are you applying Pratt/Trinity? It would be tougher to get in Pratt.

I’m applying to Trinity. Yes our school has had a history of students going to Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Duke, Berkley, Carnegie Mellon Northwestern, etc. My school is somewhat competitive but only around the top 15% area.

I think you will be competitive, but the one thing holding you back IMHO is your lack of unique ECs. Your ACT isn’t great (Duke-wise, overall it is though), but I feel that it meets the threshold where it proves that you are smart enough.

i still just dont know how competitive your high school looks to a skeptical admissions officer. those average test scores are (no offense) really bad. But if you’re saying the school has a good track record of putting kids into top schools then i think you have a fair chance. Again, the only thing im worried about is all those 3’s. Also did you get A’s in those AP classes? because that also is a detriment to the validity of your GPA.

I don’t think AP scores matter that much

Yeah I got As in most of those AP classes

well they help verify a good grade. like my AP chem class was 24 5’s and 2 4’s, but the average grade in the class was a B-. So a B in that class might be the same as an A in a different ap chem class.
