Chance me? Early Decision

Okay, so I'm really hoping this will help combat some of my anxiety... I honestly cannot express how much I want to get in!!

GPA: 4.0 (uw)

Class Rank: 1 (out of 430ish)

ACT: 31 (I think this is the aspect I am most nervous about)

Main activities:
Cross Country (two-time captain, lettered all four years)
Track (Two-time captain, lettered all years thus far, all-conference athlete)
Keyclub (Vice-president 2011-2012, President 2012-2013, over 150 hours of
community service)
Local hospital NICU/palliative care volunteer w/ over 65 hours of service
(and various others, but those are the biggies)

Job: works at a hardware store full time during the summer and around 15 hours/week
during school since early 2011.

AP Classes: APUSH, AP Bio, AP Lang, AP Lit, AP Calc BC, AP Psych, AP Euro (all 5's thus far except for AP Euro, which was a 3). The only other AP classes offered at my school are AP Calc AB, AP Gov, and AP World

Other Classes: It's easier just to tell you I have taken the highest level classes offered for every subject all four years of high school (sorry that sounds extremely obnoxious, but it's true!)

Demonstrated Interest: visited this past spring and had (what I believed to be) a pretty darn good interview

Letters of Rec: Quite nice and very comprehensive

Other: I am a first generation college student

I'm not sure if I missed anything big... please let me know what you think, it would mean a lot!

believe it or not, the fact of being a first generation college student will balance out the 31 you and your record are very impressive

congratulations on your accomplishments to date

good luck with washu, but in or out of washu, you have a lot to be proud of

Thank you so much, I’m really hoping this all works out!

You are in! The 31 is fine. Your AP scores help. Did you take any SAT Subject Test.

I had similar last year (but a much smaller class size) and got in. I had a 32 on my ACT.

I did not, the SAT isn’t really encouraged/at all mentioned where I live (although I know that’s not at all an excuse), I wish I had though!

It looks like you have six 5s on AP exams. Relax. You will be on campus next year.

Okay, thank you so much!

And I was deferred.

This is why you never say “you are in” fwiw, although if I were betting I would have predicted you’d have gotten in.

Good luck at the regular round cc, you stand a decent chance.

I am really surprised. You had six 5s on AP exams?
If you are still interested, contact Admissions Counselor and ask them what you can work on over the next several months to improve. Also continue to show a lot of interest. There are some great stories of college applicants who take a great approach after being deferred and get accepted RD. You can find some books on this.

It was actually 5 5’s, I accidentally included calc with my tests already taken. Nonetheless I will most definitely be doing everything I can to make washu happen. Do I just call admissions to find out who my counselor is?

You can find out on Pathway. I am not sure of the level of the person you get assigned on Pathway. I would call and ask who the Counselor is that is assigned to your area.
