Hi there, I’m a junior in HS and still working on the resume. I’m kind of curious as to how I would fare for Georgetown SFS admissions, though, since I’m a little nervous about getting back into the swing of school and whatnot (especially after a bumpy sophomore year).
Region: Southeast
School: C O M P E T I T I V E
GPA: 3.87 UW, 4.3 W (Junior year not factored in) – I didn’t make the best grades sophomore year (3 Bs) because of a few familial circumstances (not divorce but a family member had to leave abroad for a while to take care of extended relatives, some other stuff happened, etc.)
Class Rank: Probably not great. I don’t know what it is (we find out our senior year), but even though I’m confident that I’m at least T20%, I’m definitely not Top 5% (didn’t take APs for classes that I knew I would have hated, but a lot of people did and made As).
Classes: 6 APs thus far, planning on 5 next year
ACT/SAT: Not taken yet. On the pACT did very well (31), same for practice SAT’s. That’s not a good indicator of future scores, though.
SAT Subject: Taking them in Spring but I’m confident that on least two of the ones I’ve decided to take I can make a 750ish at least.
ECs (Clubs/Orgs):
- Editor of Student News
- Exec Board of Model UN
- President of JSA
- President of Journalism Honor Society
- Interact Club
- Team Captain for Mock Trial
- Student Ambassador & Class Representative
- Badminton Club Team
- Teen Council for Volunteering
Internships:
- Summer Intern @ The Stanford Daily (not living in the state but was with friends at the time because one of my childhood family friends was getting engaged, kind of did the internship in my free time because it was so loosely structured)
Awards:
- International award for an editorial I wrote (about an international issue)
- Best of National Student News Online x8
- Governor’s Page Program + County Wide Volunteering Project (6 months)
- Academic Honors (our school is so competitive that there are awards for just 3.5+ UW, though)
- Club-related stuff ^
I also am applying to study abroad this Summer, TASP, and some other programs (I speak three languages aside from English so I would study abroad for those). I think I’m mostly just scared of my GPA/Class Rank botching my whole application – I’ve heard that Georgetown is SUPER picky when it comes to those two fields. I don’t have any hooks or anything (#Asian…), but I do know that I have a passion for IR/Journalism and I really, really love Georgetown.
