ACT: 33
APs: Physics B, Stats, Microeconomics, Language & comp, Calc AB, Chen, Human geography.
School doesn't rank. I go to the number one school in Illinois, extremely competitive, almost everyone has 3.5+ GPAs

EC: Varsity Wrestling (captain 3 years)
Muslim Student Association (PR officer)
Junior and Senior Leaders Program
World Sport Chicago Scholar
My dad is the treasurer of a Bengali community that built the first Mosque in Evnaston, IL just last year. I've been a youth/youth leader and volunteer here pretty much all my life.

I'm getting a rec from my econ teacher, he's a northwestern grad and write amazing recs.
I know my GPA is really low for NU but I was hoping my ECs and early decision would help with that.
My passion is really medicine and athletics so i'm planning on going into sports medicine or physical therapy. Any thoughts?

Are you good enough to make the NU wrestling team? If so, you’re in.

If not, probably not. Your GPA is low, your ACT isn’t high enough to make up for your GPA and the other ECs don’t look exceptional either. A few years ago you could have gotten in with these stats, but NU’s acceptance rate has plunged to 18% from 27% two years ago and may well fall further by next year.

Yeah that’s what i was thinking. I’m not going to wrestle in college. Does northwestern have interviews for applicants?

Yes, but they are not required; my son got accepted to NU without either an interview or a campus visit.

You should also remember that stats aren’t everything. You’ve still got time to develop an EC or community service project that will make you stand out from the crowd. Note that your stats are by no means bad, but you just need something unusual to draw the admission committee’s attention.

Actually, i didn’t list it on there, but I’m in the midst of starting a carbon offset business with a friend. We’re pretty much creating an online business in which companies pay us to compensate for their carbon emissions from electricity, transportation, etc. Pretty much they pay us and we fund a project that reduces emissions elsewhere, such as a windmill project in Uganda. My economics teacher is a supervisor. Do you think i will be able to mention that even though it won’t be 100% completed by by october. I’ll have a website up and running by then but it’s hard to tell whether it would be worth a mention if it’s not 100% up an running.

Absolutely! If you mention the website URL in your application, someone will almost certainly take a look at it (adcoms love this stuff!) – which means that website changes/updates you make months after your application deadline could still work toward helping your admission chances.

im planning on applying to northwestern ed with similar stats. and i paln on joining msa
