Hello all,
I am quite aware of the prevalence of these “chance me” type posts on this website, but I have determined that the only way to lessen my anxiety is to post here and gather some opinions from the community relating to my chances of acceptance. Here we go, and a big thank you to anyone who reads through this/replies! Truly does mean the world to me.
Here we go…
Just to let everyone know, I applied ED to Union for the Class of 2021. I am just looking for some opinions on my chances of acceptance so I can lay the ground work for some realistic expectations/ look towards applying RD to other schools if need be.
GPA: 3.46 UW
ACT: 27 (33 Writing, 35 Reading, 21 Math, 20 Science)
AP (listing the AP classes I have taken/am currently enrolled in and the grades I received on the AP exams):
European History- 4
U.S. History- 5
English Language & Composition- 5
Art History- 4
U.S./Comparative Government- currently enrolled
English Literature- currently enrolled
Studio Art- currently enrolled
ECs: Model United Nations (have attended 9 conferences thus far, won Best Journalist, Outstanding Journalist, and Honorable Mention in Press Corps committee, currently serve as the chairperson for Press Corps in local MUN chapter), did some graphic design work for local nonviolence/activism group, attend weekly youth group and volunteer with said group, participate in YMCA Leaders volunteering club, have been taking lessons for guitar for 5+ years, employed at part time job
-Strong recommendations (AP Lang. teacher & former teacher/Model UN club adviser)
-Excellent essay (hopefully so–English is my passion so I tend to excel in English-related activities)
-Had an interview on campus that I believe went really well
-Senior 1st quarter GPA 3.67
Some prevailing worries I have about my application…
It is clear from looking at my transcript that I have excelled in excelled in the humanities and fallen a little short in the STEM-related fields. Last year (junior yr.), I did not take a math or science class so as to focus on my APs and such, and this year I am taking Algebra II, the math course typically taken as a regents-level junior–it should be noted that I am doing quite well in this course though. I only have only unit of foreign language, that being the time I spent taking French in middle school. For what it’s worth (which isn’t much), I do wish I could have maintained a higher GPA throughout my high school career and excelled in more Math/Science courses. I know I cannot explain away my application and justify every piece, but truth be told, I am quite confident that had I not gone through some of the hard times I faced my freshman/sophomore year, I would have been able to maintain at least a 4.0 no problem.
I am looking to major in English and minor in Art History if all goes according to plan.
First of all, thank you so much for reading through all of this information relating to my academic record; it means a great deal. Now, could anyone give me their honest opinion on my chances of getting into Union ED? Thank you again!
