Be honest I can take it!

Your GPA is great, which brings up your mediocre SAT/ACT score. Your AP scores are also great, but it all depends on whether or not Emory considers and gives you credit for them. Your extra curricular activities all seem to be school-related things, but decent. I hope you get in!

This is Emory, the SAT/ACT of this person is NOT mediocre. For any other top 20, it would be (in fact, it would be close to the 25% of enrolled and far below those of admitted students at some), but for Emory, it’s slightly above the median of ADMITTED students in previous years. If you compare it to those who enroll, it is like 40-50 points shy of the 75% (and the inter quartile range at Emory is like 200 points mind you). I think Emory will gladly take anyone in the 14s considering that Emory is the like the only top 20 private with below a 1400 average (the median may be near 1400 though). This person is applying ED after all, which suggests that not only is their SAT higher than a significant portion of those who usually enroll from the ED pile, but is higher than those who enroll in general, and they almost guarantee that this person yields if they take them ED (it’s harder to get these people via RD). Taking this person can really only help, unless their essay isn’t good. To be blunt, if I were Emory, and I wanted to play the rankings game, I would exploit the fact that a decent amount of people apply ED, and then admit those with the highest stats. in that pile (as ED folks usually make up 50ish% of the class, but need not), and then do more of the class-shaping thing with the RD pile. I just worry that the 1400+ people aren’t necessarily the bulk of the ED applicant pool at Emory and something should be done about that.

And as far as I know, Emory will give credit for most of those (except maybe APUSH, that may end up counting as a general elective, so if the OP became a history major, they would have to retake US history if that is their sub-concentration).

BigHeadBunny, your scores are great and you have a very strong GPA. Your AP scores are outstanding. I think you have a very strong shot at Emory ED. good luck!!

70-80 percent chance (average is 27%). I would say strong chance, but again admissions is a luck of the draw. Good Luck!
