Well I'm just as anxious as everyone else about college admissions, so in order to distract myself and to tease my own confidence, I'm playing into the chancing game. I plan to apply ED to Columbia (SEAS) for a number of reasons, mainly due to the very strong biomedical engineering and neuroscience programs, but I'm also looking at Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, and a couple of other Ivies. Thanks guys.

Demographics:

-Seattle area

Academics:
-GPA: 3.92 uw, school doesn't release weighted but uses it for class rank (which is released later this year)
-Class rank: Probably top 10% or just outside 10% (there are a LOT of very good weighted GPA's at my school, due to a number of reasons)
-Schedule: Very rigorous, hardest classes available with exception of history classes, accelerated track for math and sciences since 6th grade, 5 AP classes total so far (AP Physics B, AP Physics C Mech, AP Calculus BC, AP Japanese, AP Language)
-Senior year schedule: Differential Equations (a Calculus 3 equivalent class at Columbia), with 3 AP's (AP Literature, self-study AP Physics C E&M, AP Biology)
-Test Scores: 2210 SAT (780 M, 670 CR, 760 W), 740 SAT ii Math 2, will take Physics and Literature SAT ii's in fall

-4-year Junior State of America member, multiple Best Speaker awards
-3-year Jazz Band and regular Band member, quit for Senior year due to incompetent teacher brought during for Junior year, and to make room in schedule
-2-year competitive sailing for Seattle Yacht Club, including bronze medal at Junior Olympics for 29er fleet
-Loads (not exactly sure yet, I don't want to figure it out now) of community service hours
-1-year (Senior year) Staff Writer for school newspaper
-1-year (Senior year) Chess club member, more to re-take up one of my childhood hobbies than to have something nice on my application

Paid Work:
-4-summer Sailing Instructor at Seattle Yacht Club, mostly working with 6-9 year olds, but, depending on the week, anywhere from 4-15 year olds
-1-summer (this summer) Research Assistant/Intern at a brain cancer laboratory, where I worked on a project that will be publicly available online probable before I send the application in, and was able to watch brain surgery, partake in a bunch of lab work, etc.

Letters of Rec:
-Extremely good letter from Sophomore year math teacher, who is an alum of Columbia
-Probably very good letter from Junior year physics teacher
-Letter (Probably very good) from Vice-Provost of Columbia

Other information:
-Essays will be on my internship, and how it not only opened me up to a new aspiration in life, but also how it shaped my general outlook on life, and also (in a more humorous style) how the unique difficulties associated with teaching young kids how to sail has shaped me
-I do not have any legacies associated with Columbia (Dad went to Georgetown, Mom went to Whitman College)
-Interviewing is one of my strengths
-I may be recruited for Track/XC by Columbia

Thanks guys
