Bump because I have a question. I will be visiting campus late January and then am going to decide whether or not i want to change to ED2 or not. How much will that hurt my chances?
My son put in a regular application towards the end of December and switched it to EDII on 1/9 after we visited. We got an answer 3 days later…he got in. So, I would say they would look at switching after you visit as a good sign…you are taking EDII seriously enough to commit after you visit. The professors are great. I suggest scheduling a meeting with the chair of the department you are interested in so you can leave knowing for sure if you want to switch to EDII or not. We spent a full day there and really explored, including him doing an interview with a senior (schedule ahead of time), which gave him a wonderful student perspective. He did not get to take a class because they were on break, but that is the one thing I would have loved him to experience; however, we have no doubts in his choice. Good luck!
BTW, your stats are great. You should be a competitive applicant, but ED II will definitely make you that much more solid, as you never know with these highly selective schools. If you go to EDII, please go to the other ED post and post your stats for future applicants.
My daughter applied December 21. She received her decision exactly three weeks to the day, last Thursday. It’s not possible for you to have received an answer in three days. I called the admissions office and asked how long it takes for rolling and they said no longer than three weeks with no financial aid and no longer than four weeks with financial aid.
When we went, we spoke to the powers that be (in person) they told us 7 - 14 days after a completed file was received (nothing could be missing) and we got it in 3. It may have to do with our timing, as school was out when we visited and the staff had just returned from vacation. I don’t lie and am offended that you would even suggest such without knowing anything about me. I’ve seen others say they got decisions in a week on prior year EDII feeds, so it is not that unusual. @gatedad101 your daughter likely took so long because they will not go to committee until they receive semester 1 grades. 3 weeks sounds like her school provided them when school got back in session, which would mean her decision was also likely in a week or maybe even less. They have to have 100% of the file before they go to committee inclusive of 1st semester grades and the counselors sign off on the ED agreement. We were lucky as our staff went back several days before the kids did, so when I called on that Monday (January 7th) the counselor immediately FAXed over the ED agreement and sent the grades in the system. We saw on the portal that there was an update around 4pm on that Thursday night. Again, it could have just been perfect timing because most schools don’t get grades in that fast with the break falling like it did, but that is really what occurred.
Thank you for your clear and thorough response. Your son is well on his way, and it is obvious to me that you played a strong hand in helping him (and others) deal with the original application and the subsequent change to ED11 so that the decision was reached in only 3 days. Well done, and my congratulations once again!
my ds had worked before in admissions, there are a few cases that decisions were made that fast. it is just the series of events falling into place. congratulations.
@kju0303 My son did get one, but we had already checked the portal and had our answers. I believe they told us they go to committee every Monday and Wednesday. We got our answer on Thursday late afternoon (around 5pm). Our file was not complete for the Monday committee. Remember, they need your file 100% before it goes to committee, including your counselors sign off on the ED application and your 1st semester senior grades. They wait until 100% complete, so check to see if they are still waiting on anything in the portal. Good luck
@kju0303 and please everyone remember to post your stats whether you get in or not. These boards really help others that are waiting or even still decided whether to change to ED or not. See link below on where to post those stats.
