Thanks for the feedback @srb2000
I haven’t heard that about Elon, but we are OOS. Not many kids from our area go to Elon. However, I had heard that it was a back up school for DUKE and WF (which gave me the impression that it would attract students who are serious about school—so that surprises me!). Can you share where you transferred? Best of luck to you and good for you for recognizing early on that a school wasn’t the right fit!
@“G&HMom”
I transferred to my local community college (I’m in-state, Elon was only 30 min from my hometown) for the spring semester because I missed the spring transfer deadline for most universities. I’m working on applications for UNC and NC State for fall 2019 admission.
Yeah, I just wanted to be honest with you. I am someone who takes my studies seriously, and I felt so out of place. A lot of kids are very wealthy as well and aren’t afraid to flaunt it. If you didn’t party every night, you were automatically cast as “lame”, “boring”, “nerd”.
Though, Elon did have excellent Alumni and resources that were available. While I was there I worked with their on-campus magazine and their campus news network, and they have something for everyone. It was just the people and overall school environment that ruined it for me.
I hope your D ends up somewhere she loves! I was just steer away from Elon.
I’m sorry to hear about your experience. My D loves her experience at ELON and takes her studies very seriously. I think everyone has their own experience and perspective. Her friends know she cares about her grades and she doesn’t feel any less included. She has a combination of friends the studious ones and the party ones - you have to find the right fit for you.
