Hi guys, I’m applying to both Emory and Oxford (wavering between EDII and RD), and was wondering if you could tell me my chances for both. Thanks!
Applying for Political Science/Economics
I go to a very highly-ranked public school in Massachusetts. I am white, my family is upper-middle class, and both my parents went to college and grad school. I don’t have legacy.
GPA: 4.8/4.2 weighted
Rank: Unreported, but approx. 10/125
SATs: 2270 (750 reading, 740 writing, 780 math)
Subject Tests: 770 (US History), 710 (Math 2)
APs (All 5s): US Gov, US History, Statistics, English Language
Extracurriculars:
-I write articles about the NBA for multiple major websites, including NBA.com
-Assistant to a city councilman in neighboring city: he wrote me a very strong recommendation
-Interned for two congressional campaigns, a governor’s campaign, and a mayoral campaign, putting upwards of 15 hours/week into each
-Debate: lots of single-tournament awards and stuff. Made NCFL nationals one year. Held an officer position on my team. Have a pretty high distinction from the NSDA.
-Journalism: One of the head editors on the school paper, received a New England Regional award for an article I wrote
-Varsity XC/Track
-Have a bunch of community service, including working with the school’s environmental organization
-Student representative to the district school committee
-Class representative to the guidance department advisory committee
Recommendations:
-Great outside recommendation from a city councilor I’ve worked for
-Unsure about my guidance councilor/teacher recs, but I assume they should all be good
Essays:
-Common app essay is like a 7/10, could maybe use an upgrade
-My supplements are still a work in progress, but solid so far
Thanks guys! Let me know what you think
