I have applied RD and was wondering what my chances look like or if you think I have any advantages in the admissions process.
Chemical Engineering major
Applying from competitive high school in NC
White Female
4.0 UW GPA, 4.57 W GPA
1550 SAT (800m, 750e)
SAT subject tests, 800 chem and 790 math II
9 APs (all 5s on the five exams I have taken including BC calc and chem)
Took multivariable calculus at UNC-Chapel Hill(A)
Solid ECs/Awards BUT unrelated to major: Leader of school ethics bowl (won states), leader of Latin club/tutoring, five consecutive gold medals on the National Latin Exam, National Merit Finalist
I wrote my CommonApp essay about my job/hobby as a kombucha brewer at a woman-owned company.
I have already been accepted at NC State and Georgia Tech for engineering. I was deferred from Princeton:/
Almost guaranteed admission. I’ll say 93% chance. (I am JHU alum.)
That is reassuring to hear to me too, because my profile is very similar to yours, but (imo) I have worse subject tests and most likely a worse CA essay, but better ECs and a better SAT + GPA/Rigor. I also got into GT EA!
Good luck! You have an incredible profile and I’m hoping we both get in!
@throwaway0324 Compare much? Anyway, thanks for the reassurance and good luck to you.
@macroraptor
Oop wasn’t trying to compare; I just thought it was weird that we’re so similar!
You have a strong application but JHU is still a reach, especially in RD. Glad you have some great options already.
FWIW I’d pick GT over JHU for chem eng.
I’m probably going to GT (better/more affordable:))
For any future reference, I did not get in. I’m still happy because my parents wouldn’t have let me go anyway, especially with GT as an option.
