Chance me even though I probably won't get in anywhere

GPA: Currently: 3.6 (w) no idea what my unweighted is
- I know it sucks majorly! But this is because through my sophomore year I took all honors and an AP and pretty much got straight Bs. (4 on the APUS exam though). This year: I've gotten all As one B (hon precalc) in all honors/AP classes last semester (except I'm in normal English because its not my strong suit as I've realized). And currently all As this semester (btw AP Chemistry and AP World History). I just didn't have a good work ethic freshman and soph year and I really really regret it

Tests:
SAT: Writing: 650 Reading: 630 Math: 680 (I'm going to take it again, I haven't done any prep)
ACT: 32 (36 sci, 35 writing + essay (9) = 32 writing overall, 26 reading (yikes!), 30 math)
-Retaking ACT again in a couple weeks to bring up my reading and math score
SAT IIs: Taking Math 2 and Chemistry in May (any advice would be awesome )

Possible Recs:
Teacher: I guarantee my teacher rec will be really really really good. I'm hugely involved in the science dept at school and my teacher knows I want to be like a legit scientist and always says I'm like the best students he's had (and if its important he's like HUGE in the chem world, but it's probably not haha)

Counselor - I guess it'd be ok....

ECs: (this is where I dominate)
-Band/Drumline: all four years, section leader two years (this is a summer thing as well as fall), 2 superior ratings in percussion ensembles and 1 piano concert solo thing (it was just at a concert with the band I don't know if thats important or not)
-Lifeguard in the winter and summer (about 3 hours a day winter, 5 hours summer?)
-Boy scouts: many many many leadership positions, Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow member (if it matters), 2 high adventure camps as Crew leader
-Varsity Swim AND Dive team: all four years, state 2 years (with the team not individual but maybe individual next year), not captain next year
-Water polo: 1 year JV, 1 year JV captain (with some varsity play but thats unimportant), 2years varsity (next year captain)
-Habitat for Humanity: One week in the summer out of the state every year
-Rebuilding Together: A couple days each month in the summer where this organization helps rehab houses for people in need
-Theatre program at school (I've been in pit orchestra, and had one lead role and one supporting role)
Young Dems (2009-2011) and Students for Obama(2008-2009): President 1 year (next year), worked on Obama campaign, worked on local congressman's campaign
-This organization (can't remember the name) through my church in the summer where I taught kids how to swim last year and this coming summer
-Volunteer at my church AAAALLL the time. I play the piano for fundraising dinners and am on altar guild
-Chem club- we go to the elementary schools and teach the kids about chemistry basically
-Trying out for NHS next year
-May be running for stuco prez for next year

The places I want to go are listed in order of my desire to go there:
1. University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (I really really really really want to go here, like way more than anywhere else)
2. University of Michigan (I have grandparents that went there if it matters?)
3. University of Virginia
4. University of Wisconsin
5. University of Missouri-Columbia (I live in STL and have a ton of family that went there, but it's still my last choice)

Any suggestions would be helpful because I know there are gonna be a lot of people that tell me not to bother applying to most of these schools haha

You should be a lock at missou because of legacy/ grades/ and ECs

Of the state school i think you have the best shot at UW, some shot at UM, but its a big reach. And not much shot OOS at UVa or UNC

I think your biggest problems arethat you are applying to state schoos that will mainly look at your numbers, and not your ECs/essays/recs

You might do well to look at smaller schools/private schools, that will love the fact that you are a eagle scout and have great ECs. Check out other, less selective state schools, if you really want a big school.

As far as private schools, where should I be looking at just to keep my mind open? I mean there ARE big private schools too…

Anyone else?

OOS UNC will probably want better numbers (as in SAT, SAT IIs when you take them, and GPA). I’m from NC, so if you were in-state UNC, you’d be in. Tough love.

Thank you anyway haha. Is there anything I can really do to make up for my GPA? I mean did my freshman and sophomore years really completely screw me over?

Your Gpa is a bit low, but I think your Ecs will make up for that. One thing that you should definitely do, though, is retake your SATs. They aren’t bad at all, but if you improved them, they could really help you get into some of the more selective schools on your list.

Michigan - match
Missouri - Safety
Wisconsin - no idea
North Carolina - low reach b/c out of state
Same for Virginia
