Hi there, I would like to know my chances for PEA and PAA. (Mostly PEA) Currently in eight going into ninth, and am an Asian girl living in the US.
Grades:
Taking Honors Algebra 2 right now, and will finish Pre-calculus by the end of the year. Right now I have a 94% in that, and have an overall A grade in my classes. (Some are A+) I got a 93% on my SSAT, 99% in Math, 81% Vocab, and 92% Reading.
Sports:
I unfortunately don’t have many sports, although I do dance and play tennis in my free time.
Extracurriculars:
I take Chinese 2 right now in school, but I also play the flute and piccolo, getting into All State at my state, along with some solo awards. I write in my free time (have written some webnovels) and also draw. I’m going to enter my drawings and writing into some competitions this year since I’m eligible. I also dance, as I said, and used to play chess. Although I have a lot of chess achievements, those are mostly from elementary school, and now my focus is on teaching/instructing in chess clubs in my local community. I am currently doing Science Olympiad, Speech/Debate, and Academic Superbowl at my school. I also have gotten into nationals for NHD, along with additional science and volunteering awards. I was a finalist for the Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship.
Anything I needed to add?
Notes: I attended the Exeter Summer Camp (all satisfactory…) and have already had my interview with both PEA and PAA. Now just doing essays, haha. Thanks!
I do have one other school I am considering. My mom is mad that I got the same SSAT score from last time. Should I try to take ISEE, since I’m not very good at the ELA section?
Your CDB status may be helpful. Did you get a scholarship or end the process as a finalist? If you have any connections from that process, they will likely be better able to direct you to schools which might be a good fit. No doubt, your academics will clear the bar – it’s really a matter of whether you will be bringing to a school what it’s looking for on other fronts.
Lots of excellent students think admissions to these schools is like putting together an Olympic track relay, where you want the 4 fastest people at that distance. In reality, it’s more like putting together a whole athletic department – everyone will be fit and coordinated, but you need swimmers and soccer goalies and wrestlers and runners.
You are qualified, and there is little to be gained from higher test scores unless it gives you morepleasure to study and test than other things. At this point, it’ll just be about fit and conveying that in your application and interview.
