I'm applying as a Marketing Communications major. Will hopefully double major in Theater I want to get a job as a public relations specialist at a theater company. My biggest dream is to be able to open my own Theater Company in order to expose underprivileged kids to the importance of the Arts.

I plan on getting a recommendation from our principal who I have close relations with. A club sponsor who is an alum of NU (majored in Communications). My counselor (Communications major as well). And my teacher who taught me in AP World History and AP Psychology.

Thanks!!!

Hi, you do have the #'s to get in. But if you plan to do anything theater related you have to apply into theater BA and then do the 2nd major. They will not allow you to get in marketing and 2nd major theater. For all theater majors you will need to audition or have portfolio for stage management. Just make sure you talk to adm. office before you apply to get it right. My D is a sophomore theater major at Emerson. Good luck!

To all you parents and young adults out there applying to theater schools and Emerson in particular. We went through the grueling audition and application process. We thought there was not a chance in *^# that out daughter would get in to any real theater school when we saw the competition.

BUT…THERE IS HOPE even if you do not have a blow your mind application. My daughter was accepted to Emerson and will be starting this fall 2011 as a theater major in the BA program.

Her application us not nearly as star studded as those listed above. Despite that or maybe because of that she WAS accepted.

Her ACT was abysmal and her GPA was under 3.4. NO honors classes. NO class officer stuff. Yes to varsity athletics. A lot of summer theater, theater during the school year but no lead roles. Stage manager experience and a fair amount of puppetry work. Yes to strong teacher references. Very hard worker.

Her friend who also applied was rejected not even waitlisted. His application + honors, perfect SAT scores, class officer, always lead roles in theater, many awards w/ GPA over 4.3.

Maybe cos she is female, maybe cos she is part asian. Maybe the moon was blue. Who really knows what was the reason that caught the auditioner’s eye. So, don’t get discouraged. Be positive:)
