considering medical or architectural profession
Looking at:
:: UT Austin, UCLA, BERKELEY, JOHNS HOPKINS, RICE, DUKE ::

PLEASE HELP ME OUT, I need realistic evaluations because my rank is not very appealing for Ivy League! Thanks!

I'd say you have a pretty good chance at UCLA, Berkeley, and UT Austin.
Johns Hopkins, Rice, Duke... not too sure.
It would be more helpful if you posted your courseload and other relevant info that would give us a better idea of your high school career. That IS what adcoms look at, after all :)

If I can try to remember (dont want to find schedule):

9th: All honors, including preAP Art
10th: All honors except 1 AP (AP human geography) and Student Senate (no GPA given)
11th: AP English, AP History, AP Art History, AP French IV, AP Biology, Honors PreCalculus = *6 APs (Bio is double blocked), 1 honors
12th: AP English, AP Government + Economics, AP French V, Student Congress, Swim Team, Honors Physics, AP/BC Calculus = *5 Aps, 1 elective regular, one athletic regular

SUMMER PROGRAMS: 7th grade summer, I was accepted into the DUKE Talent search program and I spent couple of weeks at campus there taking Primate Biology - UT Austin CYLC Leadership camp for 1 week - Hosital internship for 4 weeks

SPORTS/MUSIC: I've had a hand in nearly every sport but quit all of them before high school so that I could work on grades: 5+ years PSA basketball, one team to playoffs - 2 years baseball - 2 years swim team with 4 years recreational swim beforehand - 5+ years soccer - football (outside linebacker, wide receiver) in 8th grade - clarinet player from 6-8th grade, 1st to 2nd chair alternating, highest score at 2 UIL competitions, extensive competition and awards with piano - 3 years in 2 student bands, one band earned 2nd among bands in school competition

EXTRA: I write paragon essays, but I got lazy this year and earned myself B+ in nearly all my AP classes. I'm more of one of those creative students who excel in the arts (music, 2D/3D renditions). My precise hand-eye coordination makes me perfect for performing surgery, I am thinking.

Anything else?
Oh yeah, I made a mistake with my PSAT score. I didnt get a 2140 for National Merit. I actually got a 2290 - lol 2140 was from 7th grade.

for the UC's it would be helpful to post your UC UNWEIGHTED GPA and your UC WEIGHTED GPA. try to show your 10-11th grade stats is what im getting at

haha i wish i could believe that. too many ppl out there better than what i have for that to be true. I just want RICE so bad....DUKE too but Rice is my place to go.....*dream - Can anybody else provide input? What are chances of it?

Dude, Rice is my number one school as well. And no asianprincess, he is not guaranteed to get into Rice. The college admission process is sticky, it doesnt always make sense. People have been accepted to Harvard but been rejected from Colgate. Its very arbitrary. Youve got a decent shot at Rice dude. Duke is more of a reach i would say. Hope for jhu or rice. Theyre great for Med. Think about other schools you might want to apply to also.

thats cool colsen - i read ur thread - we could parallel ourselves in terms of EC value but you look like you have a higher GPA than me. I heard thats so important cuz Rice looks at that first dont they?

GPA is a bit low.. However you have good EC's (especially piano and CD) and good SAT's. One thing that is important to remember is that Essays and Interviews are essential. DO NOT rush your essays and make sure they reflect your own voice, not your parents or teachers. If you can leave a good impression on the ADCOM, i have a feeling that you will be getting an acceptance letter from Rice...

Just how many Ivies does my GPA bump off anyway? According to the Princeton Review ranking, how far up can I go? it doesnt matter for specialty or major I just want to know my maximum potential. Starting from Princeton down.....?

Ah, finally! Something I know about! Rice.
I'm the daughter of two Rice professors, one of whom has served on the admissions committee for two years.
If anything, his impression of the process seems to be that "well-rounded" students are preferenced.
Alternatively, students who have shown a very strong interest in and/or talent for the sciences have a good chance. There is always at least one science professor on the admissions comittee to fight for the science "nerds" who don't play sports or play instruments.
Anyway, you seem very well-rounded to me and I agree with the consensus: You've got a darn good shot.

(PS-- Duke TIP was mentioned. Go TIPsters!)
