Courses: My (public) school has 8 classes year so even with APs I’ve been able to take a lot electives. Such as Video Film (twice), Advanced Video Film, Guitar making (Won best in show at county fair), creative writing, and cooking.
Extra Curricular:
-Cosplay and Commissions- I am an avid cosplayer and have been making costumes for almost 8 years. I have been featured on a lot of large websites and doing commissions is my main source of personal income.
-Etsy Shop-For almost 4 years I had an Etsy shop that I started and ran where I painted custom Converse with nerdy and pop-culture inspired designs.
-“The Thread” Anthology-Beginning freshman year, I have worked on my high school’s award winning (Best in Show at Fair) creative writing anthology. I have been in charge of it for 2 years
-Nerdist Shadowing-In July of 2015 I shadowed at Nerdist and did camera work for their daily live and video shows and learned how websites are run.
-FACE Foundation Videos-Since 2016 I have volunteered for the non-profit FACE, which helps people in poverty pay veterinarian bills. I have, and am continuing to, make videos for their fundraising events and about people they have helped.
-San Diego International Film Festival -This past year I was invited to be on the videography team for the festival. I have spent over 80 hours volunteering for the San Diego Film Festival.
-Chapman Summer Film Academy-In June of 2017 I was a part of Chapman’s Summer Film Academy. In this rigorous program, we had workshops, classes, screenings, and made 3 short films over the course of two weeks.
-Fencing-I Fenced from 5th grade until 10th grade and was a competitor at the Portland 2014 Junior Olympics for Fencing.
- Nerd Club Founder and President-I founded Nerd Club at my High School and have run it for the past four years. Our goal is to make students feel accepted for liking movies, books, video games, and science through playing games and having events where we go see new movies.
-Concert Photography-I am going to be Imagine Dragon’s official personal show photographer for the closing show of their current north america tour.
-Creative Writing Club Member and President-I joined creative writing club in 9th grade and have been President throughout 11th and 12th grade. It is a school sponsored club that helps students with their writing skills, creates a student writing anthology, and hosts open mics that have had an attendance of up to 200 people.
-Handmade Left-Handed Telecaster-Through my school’s Guitar Making class I made a custom Telecaster electric guitar. It has laser engraved fret markers and a copper foiled pick guard. It won Best In Show at the 2016 San Diego County Fair.
-San Diego Comic Fest 2017 Board-I attended meetings to help organize the San Diego Comic Fest, a small comic convention run by the original creators of San Diego Comic Con.
-48 Hour Film Festival-I joined a neighboring high school’s 48 hour film festival that took place in March of 2017. My group of 6 students wrote, filmed, and edited a short film within 48 hours over the course of a single weekend.
-High School Link Crew-I was member of my high school’s Link Crew group this past year, which helps to make Freshmen feel more comfortable and at-home at their high schools. To be a member you had to be recommended for the program by a teacher.
