Chance me for 11th grade at Lawrenceville, Peddie, Blair (or 10th grade repeat)

Hi,
I’m currently in 10th grade at a really competitive high school in Central NJ. I’m looking to apply to a boarding school in the mid-atlantic or in New England. I have above average grades and a high GPA. The one of the reasons I’m applying is because I would like to go to a smaller school with smaller class sizes.

Applying to:
Lawrenceville (Reach School)
Peddie
Blair
(suggest more!!)

• SSAT/ISEE/TOEFL/PSAT: I think I did well on the PSAT but I wont know until December. (should I take the SSAT too?)
• GPA Unweighted/Weighted: 9th: 3.8/4.1 10th 4.1/4.7
• Sports (if any): Varsity swim (my times are trash now but I did make states the last three years)
• Instruments (if any): Learning Guitar
• Other ECs (if any): Model UN, FBLA, French Alliance, Film Club, Lions Club(Community Service), Lifeguard (paid) Black Belt MMA
• Hook: Very active in the community (i need help with this)
• State or Country: NJ
• Current School Type: Competitive Public ( like 7 kids from my school got into exeter)
• Ethnicity: Asian Indian
• Gender: Male
• Grade Applying For: 11th (considering repeating 10th)
• Age: 15
• Financial Aid/Full Pay: FP

Strengths: my rebound from 8th grade, Bs and Cs to As and one B+ to all As. My ECs are a strength also.

Weaknesses: 8th grade; I had a C+ in science that year, expressing myself out loud (my interviews might be a weakness)

History has always been my favorite class. I don’t really like english as much but my essays should be fine. I’ve heard its easy to apply to 10th grade, is it worth repeating a year? I’m also very introverted so I don’t know if that would be a weakness or a strength.

I attempted to post this under a new account not knowing we were only allowed one so sorry

Thanks in advance

Hi! Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass has a a lot of the things you might be looking for. I’m a current student (it’s my second year at the school) so I’m probably a tad biased ;)) but if you are looking for a school with small class sizes and a smaller community, you might want to consider Berkshire. Berkshire is a smaller school that has a student body of 400. The average class size is 11. Currently, my smallest class is 7 kids and my largest class is 13. I love the small class sizes and I feel like the smaller groups allow for more communication and open dialogue amongst my classmates, teacher, and I.

Junior year (11th grade) is much harder to get into than if you reapplied as a sophomore. This goes for any boarding school you look at. However, unlike a lot of other schools, Berkshire doubles the freshman class come sophomore year and goes from about 55-65 to about 110-130. This could increase your chances of being accepted. If you are serious really wanting to attend boarding school AND you need financial aid, you should serisouly consider reapplying as a sophomore. It is extremely difficult to get in as a junior at any school you will find. Also, you said that you were only fifteen so in terms of where you would stand amongst the ages of your other classmates, you would be just fine. It is very normal and common to repeat a year.

Please don’t hesitate to pm me with any questions about Berkshire or boarding school in general- I would be more than happy to help answer. :))
