TOP CHOICES: Vanderbilt, USC, Emory, Wake Forest, and Carnegie Mellon

For Vanderbilt, I did ED2, and had an active alum/donor write me an extra rec.
For USC, I did the interview, visited campus, and went to an information reception. I talked to the rep for my area multiple times.

Are you an international student (as in, do you have a permanent visa)? International students cannot submit SAT II Korean scores. And even so, colleges don’t like seeing your SAT II Korean scores. Your ECs are strong. And your GPA and SAT scores seem enough for your top choices.

However, if you are indeed an international student, admissions become much more difficult. But even so, you are qualified for all of these schools, and I wish you the best of luck!

ran a benefit show for the darcie genocide and raised $5000 …this is very impressive. I would emphasize it in your interview/application. Solid amount of Aps, good gpa but could be a lot better. Cornell and Brown MAY be a stretch however, I think you have a great shot at USC, Emory, Colgate, and Vanderbilt. Best of luck.

PLEASE CHANCE ME!!!

I am not international and I have never lived in Korea.

I just learned Korean by my parents

I really hope I get into USC or Vanderbilt!! :)

Oh and I am not applying for financial aid or sholarships-- does that help me in any way?

Thanks!

Even so, Korean SAT II is not recommended for Korean-Americans. However, it is acceptable to send them. And the fact that you didn’t apply for financial aid will help you in need-based schools, I think Vanderbilt is indeed one of them. And it’s good that you aren’t an international student, that reduces your competition a lot. You should have a very strong shot at Vanderbilt. Best of luck!

Thank you so much! I really hope so. I’ll be getting my decision in the next week or so…

:)

I think you have a really good shot at those schools! Your ECs are REALLY impressive and I think huge upward trend should compensate for your GPA being a bit under some of those schools. + your SAT is spot on. great chances! good luck!

Do you really think so? Haha I am so nervous because I haven’t heard back anywhere yet…

People here are so nice haha I love it. Thanks!

The low GPA is not good, but the upward trend definitely helps. Most top schools don’t really factor writing so 1380 (M + CR) is on the low side for your more difficult schools. Your strengths are your extracurriculars and applying early decision certainly helped.

Vanderbilt is definitely not need-based and neither are just about all the top universities. I wouldn’t exactly say Caroline is a shoe-in at Vanderbilt (or JHU, Brown, etc.). This came from Vanderbilt’s admissions blog for last year:
"Some highlights of the admitted class include:

Middle 50% SAT (CR+M): 1440 – 1540
Middle 50% ACT: 31 – 34
% in Top Ten % of Graduating Class: 92%
Average Rank in Class (% from top): 3.8%
Overall Admit Rate (as of mailing day): 16.3%"

She has a decent shot. You’ll find out in less than two weeks. Good luck!!!
