Chance me for a couple of Texas schools

Hello, let me start off by saying that im not like most people on CC, I'm not amazingly smart and my schedule isn't full of APs.

Id just like to know my chances of getting into the following schools:
University of Texas at Austin
Texas Tech
University of Texas at San Antonio
Texas A&M

SAT scores:

First SAT:
CR: 660
M: 450 (bad day)
W: 530
Total: 1630

Second SAT:
CR: 530 (Not sure what happened :( )
M: 610
W: 580
Total: 1730

Superscored: 1850

ACT:
Haven't got scores back, but I'm anticipating a 26-29

Class Rank: 100/450 as of the beginning of Junior year, I'll be a senior this coming year.

Classes:
Pre-AP Algebra 1 and Algebra 2
Pre-AP Chemistry 1 and Bio 1
English 1, 2, 3, 4
Pre- AP Geography and World History, Dual Credit US History

Upcoming Classes (Senior Year)
Dual Credit Economics
Dual Credit Government 1
Pre-AP Pre-Cal
Pre-AP Physics

Extra Curriculars:
Involved in Student council, I'll be the secretary Senior year
100 hours of community service
Part time job Summer 2010

I don't really remember my GPA because my school only tells us at the beginning if each year.

So if you guys could please chance me for those schools, I know my stuff isn't up to par with most people here, but I like to think I'm average. I hope I included enough info.

Thanks!

I’m not the most knowledgeable person in the world about college admissions, but I know enough about Texas schools to say that you’ll for sure get into UTSA and Tech (I personally would choose Tech over UTSA) and have a decent shot at A&M, with UT being a stretch. I’m assuming you are in state. If you’re not, you’ll still get into UTSA and Tech, but probably not the other two.

well, these schools dont superscore so they will look at your highest composite…
IN at UTSA
Im thinking IN at Tech
A&M may be a stretch if you can retake the SAT and get a Math+CR>1300 then you will be automatic, if not its kinda iffy
UT is gonna be tough especially since almost 90% of admits are from the top 10%…there is always a chance but now id probably say CAP (if instate)

Thanks guys!

What if I retake the SAT and get a ~1850? Will that up my chances at UT Austin? I know it’s going to be tough because im not in the top 10% but it’s the main school I want to get into.

And yep, I live in Houston so im in state.

What can i do next year to better my chances at UT and A&M?

Not sure what CC’s policy is on bumping, but bump

Anyone? Sorry, i hate bumping, it seems obnoxious :P

Just got my ACT score, I got a 28, which was expected with no real prep.

Your problem with UT-Austin would be that a majority of the 99 people in your class ahead of you will be headed there.

You’ll more than likely get into Tech and you have a decent chance at A&M. However, it’s going to be hard for anyone not in the top 8% of their class to get into UT.

They’re guaranteeing admission for the top 8% instead of the top 10% like in previous years so they can accept more out-of-state students (who are more than likely in the top 8% of their schools).

Gotcha. So maybe I should just throw UT out of my head? As depressing at it will be, I really don’t want to get my hopes up.

Any other Texas colleges that anyone would reccomend?

Don’t throw it out all together. I would go ahead and apply if I were you. Though you may be rejected first time around, you might be chosen to take part in their CAP program, which allows you to spend your freshman year at another school in the UT system, and (if you meet certain requirements) you can transfer after that.

If you aren’t accepted into the CAP program, you can always apply for transfer admissions from whatever school you choose.

You might want to look at Texas State, the University of North Texas, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, and Stephen F. Austin University.
