Chance me for a few schools?

MIT, Caltech, Cornell Engineering (legacy with both parents), CMU, Stanford (I'm applying to other schools obviously, but these are my reaches)

SAT: 720 CR, 770 M, 760 W: total 2250
SAT II: 760 Math II, 790 Math I, 780 Physics
Expecting to get SAT to 2300 and Math II to 800 by the time I'm applying
GPA: 96.6/100
Rank: School doesn't rank, but I'm around top 5% I believe
AP: Physics B (5), Spanish Lang (5), English Lit and Comp (5) (took more AP exams than anyone in my grade, small school, taking more next year)
Gender: F
Race: White

Awards: Wellesley book award, Bausch and Lomb science award, Best in Math award 2 years in a row, National Merit, AP scholar, CAPT advanced scholar

ECs: Done theater tech all 4 years including lighting operator, stage manager, technical director, much commitment and leadership, could go on and on but want to keep this shortish. FTC robotics and awards won there, NHS, student government stuff

Volunteering/work experience: 800+ hours at local nonprofit art studio, later hired for a pretty demanding job assistant running their fine arts summer programs. Also, face painting, and I've volunteered as a math tutor a lot

Reccomendations: One from my spanish teacher who loves me, math teacher (favorite student), and supplemental rec from the executive director of the art studio

Done summer engineering programs at some universities

I think my academic stats are pretty medium for the schools I'm looking at, so I won't stand out for that. But my ECs are pretty unique and I'm passionate about what I do!

So, do I have a shot? I'm not expecting an automatic "in" at any of the schools I listed, but is it unrealistic?

Cornell Engineering: High match
MIT: Reach
Caltech: Reach
CMU: High match
Stanford: Reach

These reaches are realistic, though.

Carnegie Mellon: high match
Cornell Engineering: high match / low reach
Caltech: mid reach
MIT: mid reach
Stanford: high reach

Good luck :D

Yay!!! Thank you guys! I think cornell and CMU are definitely the most achievable of my reaches, and I’ll try for my mid-high reaches

Bump! anyone else?

These schools are somewhat of reaches for just about anyone, but you’re chances do look better for Cornell (because of legacy) and CMU. Good Luck!

The math award is nice and all, but I don’t really see “engineering” from your ecs. Yes, you did some things that were cool with the art group, but other than that and a few university classes, I am not seeing something too special. Nonetheless, there’s nothing wrong so I would say:
Carnegie Mellon: high match/low-reach
Cornell Engineering: low-reach (due to legacy status)
Caltech: high reach
MIT: high reach
Stanford: high reach

@blinythesciguy I didn’t really mention it but I’m the coach for our robotics team and pretty much in charge this year and have had leadership positions the last 3 years but thank you! And I know my ECs are pretty artsy

bump 10char

Why you took Math1 and Math2? It is a waste of money. Math2 760 is right at the 25% for MIT. So getting 800 in Math2 would definitely help. Nevertheless, your SAT1 score is also right around the threshold for applying to these schools. You may want to bring up your SAT1 score also as your CR+M is at 1490. If you can raise your Math section score and raise your CR+M over 1500, you would have a better chance.

On the PSAT I got an 80 in critical reading, so I’m aiming for at least a 750 on the actual SAT. I got one stupid question wrong taking away the 800 in math, but I’m going to give it another shot.

For SAT II, I definitely want an 800 on math. I took it without studying or finishing trig, so I got barron’s and I’m going to go for a perfect score. I took both because some schools want either math I or math II so if I did way better on math I, I could send that instead.
