Any idea how much my relatively poor 1st semester senior grades will affect me?
Thanks so much for reading!

USC 2014, SCA here…

You’re practically in academically. But if I may say so as a matter of personal opinion… your extracurrics seem to lack variety, mainly “academic” with the only exception being violin/piano…

But sadly, it’s also a matter of how you compare to your peers. I know you stated that your school doesn’t rank, but how would you say you stand relative to your peers at your school? I went to a certain very prestigious public school for science and tech that shall remain unnamed, and while at any other school I would’ve been golden, I didn’t compare well to my peers. So…

But I’d say you have a good shot. Write a killer essay. If you do get in, I have friends majoring in BME and Global Health that I could introduce you to.

Best of luck.

@Lencias: Thanks! I already submitted my application so not much left I can do there.

My high school is pretty competitive, and I will definitely take what you said to heart. But also, would my senior year grades on my mid-year report be a cause for concern or a tipping factor? ))):

TYVM! additional inputs from anyone would be appreciated (:

You’re a nice, big, fat, match. Good luck!

Thanks! I really hope I am admitted to USC

Additional input appreciated~

You were only deferred at Cornell, not rejected. It can be disappointing if that is your “dream school”.

Will you be considering a music minor? Thornton is a premier school of music. Many students at SC double major or major and minor in different fields of interest.

Have you had the opportunity to visit the SC campus? I have been to Cornell. There is an entirely different “vibe” at the two universities.

@Georgia Girl: Haven’t been to the USC campus itself, but I’ve lived in LA before so I know roughly what the atmosphere is like (: What do you think about my chances?

Yea! East coast and west coast schools are really different in general. Care to input about how you felt the “vibe” at USC and Cornell were different? haha

Thanks again!
Additional input is appreciated~

USC fits you well. Make sure to keep up with your mid year grades!

yeah. You are definitely a match. You have a very good chance at USC.
Oh and thanks for the Hug!

@PhoenixR;bm2011: YEA HUG (: thanks for the chance btw!

bump! to be honest i don’t want to get ahead of myself, but do you guys think I can qualify for any scholarship or aid if I’m admitted? In addition, how are these sort of things determined? What are the criteria? (linked answer is great)

Thanks for all your response beforehand! Greatly appreciated :P

how bad are your senior grades?

^in post #1 under “Senior Year”

**Senior Year/b
A.P. Physics B: B+/B+
A.P. Biology:: B+/A-
A.P. Economics Macro/Micro: B+/A-
A.P. Government: 2nd semester
A.P. Literature: A-/B+
Multivariable Calculus: A-/A-
Science Research: A-/A-
Spanish III: A-/A-

Oh lolz - anyway in my experience and looking at other ppls apps, marginally lower senior grades like yours won’t hurt your application significantly, but higher senior year grades will help your app sgnificantly

haha i hope so, i’m trying my best to bring my grades back up. What do you think of my chances of getting admitted or getting some scholarship? ): Thanks for your input!

bumpbumpbump~

Dude, I think you have a good shot. The only thing that could hold you back is your UW GPA, your test scores are right in the 25-75 range from last year.

Also, glad to see another track guy! What do you run? I’m a 100m/200m guy myself.

Good luck on both admissions and track! I can’t wait (79 more days!)!

Mind chancing me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1047739-escaping-wisconsin-snow-chance-me-merit-aid.html

haha what do you think are my chances of getting some merit scholarship? Do you know if USC gives those to limited people or are they usually generous with this kind of stuff since after all, USC is relatively expensive ): What’s the minimum amount someone can get before not being eligible at all? Thanks for chancing me! I chanced you back!

I have a suspicious feeling that my mid-year report is gonna f- me. Anyways an update on my college acceptances so far for these who want to give any more suggestions. Hope this hopes:

Cornell University ED: Deferred
MIT EA: Deferred
University of Michigan Engineering: Accepted

USC is one of my top choices atm
Additional Input? Come on :P

Haha dude, don’t say that. I think your research EC gives you a good leg up over other applicants they’d compare you to.

On a side note, what do you run for track? Just wondering.

haha not gonna say :stuck_out_tongue: my times this year are horrible. I don’t think im much of a track person, i basically just joined with some friends LOL

bumpity bump~
