hey so here are my stats! can i get in and if i do what type of merit could i be looking at?

STATS

SAT IIs: 700(Biology), 710(US History), (going to take Math IIC expecting 700 min, hoping 750+)

Taken 5 APs(Euro - 4 sophomore year, the other 4 are jr year and yet to come back but expecting 4-5 on all), several honors, and only 2 regular classes through 3 years in high school and 8th grade advanced courses. Taking 4 APs senior year. Low GP UW but with a very rigorous schedule and an upward trend (did not work very hard until I realized I needed to get serious around middle of 10th grade)

Leadership:
Former Vice President and current President of community service club @ local library

Your SAT is really good and your GPA is fine UW (weighted probably puts you close to 4.0 with all the APs you’ve taken). You’ve also got some good ECs. Do you have leadership experience in any of your clubs?

Being from NY may be a bit hard to get scholarship money, as it is one of the more "popular’ OOS places for Pitt students. I’d say you will definitely get in but you should apply pretty early with a full application (essay, LoRs, resume) and you should have a shot at some money (maybe half-tuition from the UHC).

thanks for the advice @awesomeopossum, i have one leadership position in my community service club; also peer drugs is a small selective club, you need to apply it only has 20 members per grade so in a sense that is a leadership role? I hope it is enough for a dcent scholarship of Half or more

We really can’t tell you for sure. You’ll just have to wait and see and have backup plans. As AO said, apply now or as soon as possible if you have not already - that will increase your chances.

Your stats are in the ballpark for a merit scholarship. It is difficult to say what you will receive. Every year there are kids with better stats who don’t receive anything as well as kids with lower stats receiving scholarships. You will just have to apply as early as you can and see what arrives in the mail. The competitiveness of the scholarships especially the full tuition scholarship has been going up every year. Good Luck!

@MTnest well to make pittsburgh a realistic option i’d need at least 10k from them in merit, my overall goal in my college list is to be 4 or less hours from home any more is a bit much (with a few exceptions). so thats why i’m hesitant with pitt because their scholarship criteria is very vague

Closetohome1, many of the full tuition scholarships go to students who have very close to straight A’s. With a 91/100 average, a student can have half 96’s and half 86’s, which would be half A’s and half B’s or a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. You should have a better idea of your GPA than we do. OTOH, if you have mostly 89 to 91 grades, your GPA could be very close to a 4.0 and that will increase your chances for merit money.

@MD Mom well my 8th grade advanced courses as well as 9th grade was somewhat poor, mostly 86-90 with a few below that and a few above that. i began to pick it up a bit in 10th with all 90-92s with one sub 90 and than this year i really picked it up with an extremly rigorous schedule i pulled out with an 88 as my lowest grade in an ap class and all 90-98 in my other courses. so hopefully this improvement helps my resume

@closetohome-- As mentioned above, scholarships at Pitt aren’t an exact science, so after you apply and submit all of your scores, recommendations and EC’s, you have to just wait and see. If you’ve applied, the scholarships have generally have started arriving in November-- but again it’s a little different every year. If you haven’t applied yet, do it ASAP for the best chance! The good news is you’ll know before just about any other school including SUNY’s what your final number will be so you can make your decision.
Have you decided what you are majoring in?
