I am hoping that my theatre background will help me get into a business school because many business students dont also do theater so it might help mr stand out.

In the summer of 9th grade I went to Cambridge University in England and studied global business there and I got an A- in that and I want to go to college for Business.

Last summer I spent three weeks at cornell and did a psych course and got a B.

NO RANK FOR MY SCHOOL

STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES

SAT: 2100
Reading: 600
Writing: 700
Math: 800

SAT 2s
Math I: 720
Math II: 690
US History: 670

I got a 4 on my AP test for AP US

My main common app essay is how two insufferable yet influential people in my life led me towards realizing that I would do well in business. It is about overcoming obstacles but I really like the essay and it shows my true self.

Teacher rec from AP calc teacher and Stat teacher last year--great rec
Got a recommendation from my english teacher and I thought since my english SAT is bad the english recommendation might help make me look better in terms of english.

I understand that my English SAT is low, but my overall SAT is 1400 which is higher than the AEM's avg sat (1384). Also, business schools value quantitative abilities more and my math is 800.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY I COULD OR COULD NOT GET IN!!!

also, I live in NJ and am caucasian

I’ll say 65%.

Here’s my algorithm:

 1. Start at 10% for AEM
 2. Add 15% for ED.
 3. Add 5% because you are “admissible.”
 4. Add 15% for above average GPA
 5. Add 5% for course rigor
 6. Add 5% for SAT score
 7. Add 10% for ECs

GPA - Great
Standardized score - Average at best
EC - On the great side

If your essay really stood out and was clear on WHY business and perhaps if you are not applying for FA, I think you really have a solid shot at the school.

Good luck!

Thanks for your feedback guys!

Helpmeoutman- What does FA mean? Also I understand that my SAT is not great, but their average is 1384 and i have a 1400 so I was thinking maybe that’ll not make me stick out like a sour thumb idk but yeah I should work on my SATs for January.

FA = financial aid.

Is 1380 average SAT of the ACCEPTED students or the entire application?

I am guessing its the average for the accepted students, and that will make your SAT alright. If not, urggg thats not good.

No that is for accepted applicants. The mid 50% of accepted applicants’ SAT scores is 1320-1470. And im sure that the business school would want to see more of a quantitative skill so maybe my 800 math will make me look good in some way. And I did not apply for financial aid.

God I’m so nervous I dont know why but I have such a bad feeling about this :(. Wish me luck! and thanks again!

That clarifies.

The bad thing about business schools, in my opinion, is that like you mentioned they emphasize the math skill. but meanwhile, it is in the areas of humanities, where extensive research and reading is required… So they have to emphasize skills in reading. If you know what I mean.

But then again looking at those stats your SAT isnt that bad. And I guess it wont be a “reason” why you didnt get in, should you get rejected. It may be something else.

I wonder how many people applied to AEM for ED. Is there any past data available?

How can you possibly apply an algorithm to a holistic admissions process?

How can I not? I didn’t used to, but I felt the chances I gave were much to arbitrary. I’m not an admissions officer and I base my algorithm off general impressions from reading these boards for several years. It still comes down to a lot of “gut feel” when I assign those percentages, but I think the algorithm helps me justify my chances more. I never give out 100%, nor in my head is there a means to. Because I understand as well as anyone that admissions is holistic, I try to make the algorithm as accurate as possible, based on my experiences. I think in my explanation, I accounted for all the information given. I’m utilizing a probabilistic approach based on personal experience, which I think is the most effective means of “chancing” someone. If I put someone at 50%, it means in my mind, that if Cornell sees 100 applicants with similar stats, 50 will get accepted. The differences between those students are likely minimal. When doing chances threads, the obvious big 2 assumptions I make are that given XYZ stats, the essays and recommendations are equal. In this thread for example, since the person was applying to AEM, I gave +10% for EC’s because several were business-related. Had I only seen band or sports, that percentage may have been +0%.

aem admit rate is 11%

@helpmeoutman, i’m pretty sure Cornell is need blind? so it shouldn’t help/hurt slakaa if (s)he is applying for FA.

Hi! so i was wondering if you could rate my chances of getting in to the Hotel Admin. School at Cornell…
GPA 99.77
I took 3 AP classes last year and im taking 5 this year
My class rank is 32 out of 502
my ACT score was 27
my SAT2 in math I was 670 and in US history was 680
i have a double legacy (my dad and my grandpa) and my brother currently attends Cornell (but idt that counts for anything)
im also in A LOT of extra curriculars and have leadership positions in most of them

^as long as you have extra curriculars in the hospitality industry you might get in just because the hotel school stresses experience in the field. Also your ACT might bring you down but you never know! I say 50% chance because of your fantastic gpa. can you chance me?

oo nevermind you already did lol

nvm on the nvm you actually didnt lol…chance me please!

Hey can i ask what happened? Did you get accepted?

You have an okay/decent shot at ED. The reality is that for AEM scores matter little for a good part of the kids because they’re hooked applicants. If you’re unhooked, it’s significantly harder. Your ECs are great and you have good grades, not so much for other aspects. Realize that if you get the average score, you have an average shot (in terms of scores). Your ECs and your choice of ED would have bumped you up significantly, but applying to AEM is a bit different.

17.28%

/10char

i think you’re a great candidate! amazing grades and amazing classes W.O.W extracurriculars!! but CR r u ■■■■■■■■?? like does ur brain and face go from this is SOO easy in math like einstein genius finish in like 5 mins and then to CR like http://www.jonnyku.com/rants/special_olympics/boy%20running.jpg</a>
